The OUC recently signed a cooperation agreement with the CIBT Education Group initiating an international hotel management programme. The project aims to produce outstanding graduates in the field of hotel management in an effort to develop the high-end domestic market by introducing international curriculum resources and training methods. In order to promote this, a promotion conference on hotel management projects in Chinese radio and TV universities was held in Lianhua Hotel in Kunming, Yunnan.
On 14 October 2010, Ms. Gonzalez, Representative of the International Department, Open University of Catalonia (OUC), Spain, visited the Open University of China (OUC). Li Yawan, Director of the OUC International Cooperation and Exchange Division, gave her a warm reception. The 24th AAOU (Asian Association of Open Universities) Annual Conference was held in Hanoi, Vietnam between October 26-28. This year's conference was themed "Open Distance Learning towards Building Sustainable Global Learning Communities" and sponsored by Hanoi Open University of Vietnam. 415 representatives from 22 countries and regions attended the academic exchange conference on distance education. A delegation headed by Zhang Hui, vice president of the Open University of China (OUC) attended the conference, at which the OUC was elected a member of the next AAOU Executive Committee (2011-2013).
Vice President Zhang Shaogang of the Open University of China (OUC) met the delegation of Peruvian Fuerza 2011 headed by its party president Congresswoman Keiko Fujimori on 23 November.
Zhang Shaogang briefed the guests on the OUC, and provided more information about the "One College Student for One Village Initiative", distance education for members of the armed forces and for the disabled. Congresswoman Keiko Fujimori expressed an interest in the various forms of distance education, the curriculum system, and especially the subjects offered to rural areas, and expressed her hope to enhance cooperation with the OUC.
The afternoon of November 15 saw the OUC-TRU Joint Research Center unveiled in the Wukesong Publishing Building. The President of the Open University of China (OUC) Yang Zhijian and the New President of the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) of Canada Alan Shaver signed a statement of intent at the inauguration ceremony, and participants held discussions on the plans for cooperation.
On 17 October 2010, a delegation of 16 members from Universitas Terbuka led by Samsudin, governor of Bangka province, Indonesia, visited the OUC's Experimental School. Chen Juan, vice dean of the Experimental School, and Li Yawan, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Division, gave them a warm reception.
The delegation visited the school's history exhibition, classrooms, computer rooms, and monitoring rooms. They were briefed on the development of the OUC system, including teaching and administration. Eight students, tutors and teaching assistants from the experimental school had cordial discussions with the members of the delegation.
The 14th UNESCO-APEID International Conference took place from 21 to 23 October, 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand. Around 170 participants attended, and over 90 speakers presented their papers. Wang Ying, an associate professor at the Institute of Open and Distance Education of the Open University of China(OUC), and Dai Jing, a member of the OUC's International Cooperation and Exchange Division, participated in the conference on behalf of the OUC.
From the second to the twelfth of September 2010, an exchange delegation from the Open University of China (OUC) visited Japan and Korea. In Chiba, Japan, the delegation attended the second OUJ, OUC and KNOU International Seminar on Distance Education, with discussion centring on the professional development of teachers and support services for distance learning. In addition, the delegates visited the Study Centre of the Open University of Japan (OUJ) to learn about the centre's operations and management situation. The delegation visited the Korea Cyber University, exploring in depth the current status of Korea's online learning development and curriculum design. The delegation also explored avenues for future cooperation.
