June 19-20 saw the convening of the 2014 MOOC Development Forum of Chinese Universities in Beijing. With the theme Initiating a New Era of MOOC Learning, the forum, sponsored by Distance Education in China, focused on the new characteristics and trends in future university education, highlighted discussions on MOOC’s new thoughts, new methods and new measures in promoting teaching mode innovation and improving education quality. The Open University of China (OUC) shared its experience on MOOC practice in the past two years.

On July 31, 2014, 90 cadres of CPC Organization Department nationwide who attended the symposium on online training visited the Open University of China (OUC). The visiting group paid a visit to the exhibition room showcasing the history of the OUC, themed “Deep Integration of Information Technology and Education”, it featured cloud classrooms, digital libraries, etc.

The review process for the Open University of China (OUC) 2013 scholarships came to an end today. A total of 8,904 OUC students were awarded scholarships. Among them, 7,725 students were granted OUC scholarships, 579 students won OUC “Field of Hope” scholarships, 100 students won the Sunlight Scholarship for Special Education of the OUC (Education for the Disabled), and 500 were granted Scholarship for Non-Commissioned Officers.

A group of retired senior leaders of the Ministry of Education (MOE) including Zhang Xiaowen, Liu Bin, Wang Mingda, Tian Shulan, and Zhu Xinjun came to visit the OUC on the morning of 12 June 2014.

Accompanied by Yang Zhijian, President of the OUC, Li Ling, Vice President of the OUC, and Liu Chen, the Assistant to the President, the team of old cadres appreciated “The OUC Rhapsody” and visited the school history exhibition with the theme “Deep Integration of Information Technology and Education — From RTVU to the OUC”.

Three ceremonies: the inauguration of PCAERI of the OUC, Your Art Network (Art Education Network) of the OUC going online, and a news conference for the painting and calligraphy exhibition to celebrate the PCAERI, were held at the teaching building for distance education of the OUC on 20 June.

On 3 July 2013, the School of Art of the Open University of China (OUC) was established. The establishment of the School of Art was based on the OUC’s objective, positioning, and functions of running the school, with the aim of integrating better arts resources, propelling the construction of course resources, and carrying out social art education to satisfy the art education needs of all members of society in every respect, and to focus on offering non-degree education in the arts.

Beijing Xicheng Community Youth Club Dragon Boat Competition, the first of its kind, was held at the Beijing Jinfan Water Sport Club on May 29. A total of 34 teams registered for this competition. They included teams from 13 central authorities, enterprises, and institutions like the National People’s Congress (NPC), the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and the Ministry of Education (MOE), teams from five youth league organizations from such districts as of Dongcheng and Chaoyang, as well as 16 community youth clubs in Xicheng District.

Deputy Director-General of the Department of Vocational and Adult Education (DVAE) Liu Jiantong and Director of the Division of Distance and Continuing Education Liu Ying, from the Ministry of Education (MOE), led a team of 15 youth cadres from their subordinate Administrative Office, Division of Comprehensive Affairs, Division of Distance and Continuing Education, Division of Adult Education, Division of Teaching Materials and Division of Moral Education on a tour of the OUC in order for them to carry out research related to their field.
