The 18th China International Software Exhibition, with the theme “Software Leads Information Consumption and Helps With Economic Transformation and Upgrading”, was held in Beijing from May 29th to 31st, 2014. The Education and Training Committee of the China Software Industry Association (CSIA), together with the School of Software of the Open University of China (OUC), jointly organized the “Software Talents Training Forum” on May 30th, which welcomed more than 100 conference representatives from colleges and universities, industries, and enterprises.

A Traveler’s Song, a renowned poem from the Tang Dynasty, thoroughly stirred the emotions of all in attendance after being interpreted by Professor Cheng Yuzhui of Peking University. This is the actual picture of the meeting place for the “Cultivating and Practicing Socialist Core Values Seminar — Classic Poetry Appreciation and Humanistic Quality Promotion”. The report concluded in warm applause, and Professor Cheng bowed to the audience several times. His solemn and modest attitude won him the respect and appreciation of the whole audience.

A few days ago, the Open University of China (OUC) approved 14 institutions, including Qingdao Community University, to be among the first batch of the OUC experimental centres for community education, and approved 39 institutions, including Taiyuan Community University, Shanxi, to be among the first batch of the OUC experimental bases for community education, in order to: better study the role that community education plays in the construction of the lifelong education system, better understand how distance education can promote lifelong learning for all, thoroughly explore new teaching models, share and expand resources for community education, and to actively promote the advancement of the study and implementation of community education. From May 5-8, 2014, the East-West Cooperation Meeting of the China Zhigong Party was held at Chongzuo City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Yan Xiaopei, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Vice Chairman of the China Zhigong Party’s Central Committee, attended and addressed the meeting.

On the morning of May 6, Youth League Committee of Departments directly under the Ministry of Education (MOE) convened to pass on, learn, and implement the spirit of the important speech delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping on May Fourth. Excellent youth league committee leaders from departments directly under the MOE, May Fourth Red Flag Youth League, Advanced Groups and Individuals Involved in the Investigation Activities of Returning to the Countryside for Spring Festival, and “Rooted in the Grass-roots Level” photography competition award winners were commended and a series of activities entitled “Reading, Speaking and Writing”, by the youth league members from departments directly under the MOE, were launched. 

On April 22, a video conference of the Open University of China (OUC) national reading initiative summary and the kickoff of Tao Fen Foundation Donation Project (pilot unit), co-sponsored by the Library Society of China and the OUC, was held at the OUC headquarters in Beijing. 

 

On May 8 the 7th three-day National Chinese Learning Conference (NCLC) was held in Los Angeles, U.S. More than 1,200 delegates, including education officials, school principals, Chinese education specialists, and teachers from across the U.S. and other countries, as well as participants from relevant education and teaching institutions, attended the conference. Distance Chinese teaching became one of the highlights of the conference.

On April 10th of 2014, CCRTVU Press Co. Ltd. and the Training Centre of the Open University of China (OUC) signed an agreement to jointly invest in the establishment of the OUC Online Education Technology Co., Ltd..  

The OUC Online Education Technology Co., Ltd. was created to provide such services as technical support, market expansion, and business operation for the non-degree continuing education and training services of OUC by utilizing information technology and linking with the credit bank system,
