In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the National Conference on Teaching Work, promote the basic task of cultivating talents with morality, improve the construction quality of politics and law majors, and enhance the quality of training and teaching in these majors, the Faculty of Political Science and Law of the Open University of China (OUC) held a teaching work conference and seminar for politics and law majors in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, from 12-14 November 2019.

From 18 to 22 November 2019, a special teacher training targeted at supporting the Open University of China (OUC) Qinghai Branch was held in Xining, Qinghai Province. Eight-one teachers and management personnel from radio and tv universities from various prefectures and cities in the province, as well as colleges directly under the OUC Qinghai Branch, participated in the event.

With the sustained and rapid development of China's economy and society, and the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, a dramatically increasing number of people are learning Chinese as a second language throughout the world and as such, there is a greater need for more Chinese language teachers.

On 23 November 2019, the first session of the final of the OUC's Student English Writing Contest was concluded at the OUC conference centre. One hundred sixteen students from 19 branches and schools were shortlisted for the final. A total of more than 200 people attended the contest, including OUC vice president Yang Xiaotang and representatives of the OUC headquarters and the branches.

Recently, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security has organised poverty alleviation in Xinjiang Province. Yao Xinxia, president of the Experimental School of the Xinjiang Branch of the Open University of China (OUC), and leader of the work team stationed in Kalabashilangan Village (Village 10), Mangxin Township, Yingjisha County, Kashi Prefecture, is also secretary of the general Party branch, and responsible for poverty alleviation. She has been cited for her meritorious service, and is the only female cadre engaged in poverty alleviation to have received this honour in Xinjiang.

Zhang Yingzhao, from rural Hebei Province, is an assistant engineer with the Tianjin Haval Branch of the Great Wall Motor Company. He has achieved not only success but also a happy family life in Tianjin. His life shows how education can transform, in this case through the ‘Action Plan for Realising Dreams of Further Education’."

With the in-depth application of the Open University of China (OUC) learning network, more and more teachers and students have become engaged in teaching and learning on the network. During this semester, the number of students visiting the learning network and their level of activity have increased significantly.

From 13 to 15 November 2019, the Open University of China (OUC) 2019 Teacher Development Workshop which was jointly sponsored by the OUC Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development and the Education Research Institute and organised by Hebei Radio and TV University (Hebei RTVU), was held in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province in China.
