On July 29, 2014, the Open University of China (OUC) established the School of the Ocean on the foundation of Qingdao Radio & TV University (RTVU) in Qingdao. This raised the curtain on the OUC's strategy of leveraging modern distance education technology to promote the reform and development of marine education and accelerate the training of skilled professionals specializing in the marine industry.

The review process for the Open University of China (OUC) 2013 scholarships came to an end today. A total of 8,904 OUC students were awarded scholarships. Among them, 7,725 students were granted OUC scholarships, 579 students won OUC “Field of Hope” scholarships, 100 students won the Sunlight Scholarship for Special Education of the OUC (Education for the Disabled), and 500 were granted Scholarship for Non-Commissioned Officers.

The 8th International Conference and Workshops on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching (the 8th TCLT) was held in Tufts University in Boston, United States, from June 6th to 8th of 2014. The subject of this conference was “Technology Literacy and Chinese Language Teaching in the 21st Century”. The OUC sent representatives for the conference for which it was a sponsor.

On 14 June 2014, the OUC Experimental School hosted a student speech contest with the theme “The OUC In My Heart”. This contest was carried on simultaneously via the cloud classrooms of the Experimental Schools at Beijing, Nanhai, and Taiyuan, with a total of 15 players taking part. Yan Bing, Vice President of the OUC, acted as head of the judges group.

A group of retired senior leaders of the Ministry of Education (MOE) including Zhang Xiaowen, Liu Bin, Wang Mingda, Tian Shulan, and Zhu Xinjun came to visit the OUC on the morning of 12 June 2014.

Accompanied by Yang Zhijian, President of the OUC, Li Ling, Vice President of the OUC, and Liu Chen, the Assistant to the President, the team of old cadres appreciated “The OUC Rhapsody” and visited the school history exhibition with the theme “Deep Integration of Information Technology and Education — From RTVU to the OUC”.

“I am Han Ying, a blind stenographer from Shanghai. Although my eyes can’t see the colors in the world, I still have a colorful dream in my heart……” At the recent conference to honor praiseworthy groups and individuals associated with the fifth national model of self-improvement and to recognize those known for helping the disabled, Han Ying stepped into the Great Hall of the People, and narrated her own experience with great passion in front of Party and state leaders, as well as a massive audience.

Guangxi RTVU aided in construction of a Home for Left-Behind Children and donated computer equipment and stationary valued at RMB 35,000 for the primary school of Liuchang Village, Heng County on May 28, four days before the international June 1st Children’s Day. Additionally, Guangxi RTVU also contributed an amount of RMB 11,400 as the construction fee for a “Beautiful Village” for the village committee of Liuchang Village.

Anhui RTVU's official WeChat platform — “Anhui RTVU at Your Fingertips” was opened on 4 June 2014. Within the short period of just half a day, more than 300 teachers and students had already begun following with interest. After simple and fast browsing, teachers and students found that they could check the micro lecture syllabus, obtain micro notices, inquire about micro results, and participate in micro activities through the platform. “Anhui RTVU at Your Fingertips” quickly became a “small secretary” assisting the students.
