On January 8, 2015, President of the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK), Professor Yuk-Shan Wong, visited the Open University of China (OUC). President of the OUC Yang Zhijian, Vice President of the OUC Li Ling, and Vice President of the OUC Zhang Shaogang met with Professor Yuk-Shan Wong.

Yang Zhijian said that the OUC is willing to actively cooperate with the OUHK, which is currently chairing the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU). The OUC plans to receive visiting scholars from the AAOU in 2015. Yang hopes to explore the development of "Five-Minute Lectures" with the OUHK. In addition, Yang hopes to use this as a platform to spread traditional Chinese culture so that Chinese people in Hong Kong, Macao and overseas can gain a better understanding of their own culture. Professor Wong hopes that the two sides will be able to jointly promote education at the postgraduate level. He hopes that by taking advantage of the organizational system of the OUC across China, the OUC and OUHK can promote cooperative education in cities outside Beijing.

The two sides also negotiated issues including receiving visiting scholars from the AAOU, jointly promoting the development of "Five-Minute Lectures", and the establishment of a curriculum for postgraduates. They hope that pragmatic cooperation will promote positive interaction between Hong Kong and mainland China.

Professor Wong also visited the "Deep Integration of Information Technology and Education: From China Central Radio and TV University to the Open University of China " history exhibition, the Learner Support Centre, the digital library, and the MOE Research & Training Centre for Community Education. He paid special attention to the progress of work on the Open University for Older Adults in the Department of Social Education and Vocational Training.
