On 26 September 2020, the Xi’an Branch of the Open University of China (OUC) held a conference to celebrate the beginning of the 2020 autumn semester, to award degrees, and to commend outstanding graduates.

The series of live lectures titled Open Discussion of Food Safety, launched by the Open University of China (OUC) programme “Famous Lectures by Renowned Teachers”, ended recently. From when the lectures began on 4 September 2020, they attracted more and more attention, with nearly 700,000 taking in a single lecture.

Li Yutian, a 31-year-old policeman in Cangxi who graduated from Sichuan Branch of the Open University of China (OUC), unfortunately passed away while saving a girl who fell into the river.

The three-episode full-length documentary From Jianguomen to Fuxingmen: A Stroll along Chang’an Street (hereinafter referred to as A Stroll along Chang’an Street), planned and produced by China Education Television, was shown during the recent National Holiday. The 4th AAOU Presidential Speech Series Webinar was held online on 6 October 2020 with the theme of “Quality Assurance and Certification.” Dr. Darojat, chairman of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) and president of Universitas Terbuka of Indonesia, gave an opening speech. Professor Pachonklaew from Thailand Sukhothai Open University chaired the webinar, and vice president Lin Yu from the Open University of China (OUC) and president of Sri Lanka Open University, Professor Ariadurai, were invited to give keynote speeches.

Recently, the 4th set of organisations charged with evaluating vocational training and offering vocational-skills certificates was announced for the Ministry of Education’s 1+X certification–system pilot programme. The Evaluation of Demand for Geriatric Care vocational-skills certification, formulated by the OUC Education and Training Centre and principally organised by China Everbright Industrial Group, was included.

On 17 September 2020, Tian Xuejun, vice minister of the MOE and director of the State Language Commission, investigating “poverty alleviation through education” in Bingdi Township, Jinyang County, Sichuan Province, attended an IT-based class designed to promote the use of Mandarin in the countryside. He was accompanied by OUC vice president Ju Chuanjin, intending to learn more about the promotion of Mandarin and the use of the class in doing so.

The Sixth China Construction Bank Cup Shandong Internet Plus College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was recently held in the province. After several rounds of selection, a total of 300 projects were shortlisted for the final. “Integrated Pathfinder for the Cultivation of China Famous Agricultural Products and the Development of Live Streaming Sales (the example of Xumeng Ecological Garden, Wulian County)”, a project recommended by the Qingdao Branch of the Open University of China (OUC) distinguished itself from the 90 projects in the vocational education category, and won a silver prize.
