On October 11, 2012, the OUC invited Professor Bob Fryer, chair of the Campaign for Learning UK to deliver a lecture entitled “Promises & Problems of Lifelong Learning”.

The meeting featured academic discussions concerning the development of digital library technologies and new application models. Mr. Zhang Ruilin, director of the OUC library, made a keynote speech. Zhao Xuan, from the OUC library, submitted an essay entitled "The Open University of China's Application of a Microblog System", which was awarded second prize in the area of technical application.

On November 1, 2012, a high-level delegation from Canada's Athabasca University visited the OUC. The Open University of China (OUC) recently hired as senior consultants Professor Hao Keming, member of the National Education Advisory Committee and leader of the Advisory Group for Building Lifelong Education Institutions, and Sir John Daniel, former president of Commonwealth of Learning and former vice chancellor of the Open University UK.

After 6 years of construction, the Zhejiang RTVU Distance Lab began trial operations this spring. Currently it hosts over 200 experimental projects, which provide practical teaching services for over 80 courses.
