On 3 July 2013, the School of Art of the Open University of China (OUC) was established. The establishment of the School of Art was based on the OUC’s objective, positioning, and functions of running the school, with the aim of integrating better arts resources, propelling the construction of course resources, and carrying out social art education to satisfy the art education needs of all members of society in every respect, and to focus on offering non-degree education in the arts.

Have you ever imagined this kind of life: By using a mobile phone to replace all remote controls and switches at home, you can shut off all electrical appliances with a single button when you step out the door, or control the temperature and turn on the lights in advance before you get home? Recently, with a similar design plan, the “Firefly Innovator” team organized by students at the School of Computer and Communication of Shandong RTVU won third prize in the “China Innovator” National Universities Contest, with Rong Lili and Lian Lijun winning the title of excellent instructors.

In the oppressive summer heat of the morning of July 18th of 2014, Ye Liansheng, hailed as the “most beautiful old man” because of picking up more than 200,000 cigarette butts, carrying a plastic bag in his left hand and holding a self-made “magic tool” in his right hand, appeared again at the side of the canal. But the difference this time was that he was followed by a group of volunteers from the summer training class for student cadres of Zhejiang RTVU. In half a day, led by Mr. Ye, the students picked up thousands of cigarette butts.

On July 16th of 2014, Tianjin RTVU celebrated its 56th birthday. On the same day, the 5th Learning Festival was convened, and the Tianjin Lifelong Learning Network mutually organized by Tianjin RTVU and people.com.cn went online. Thus, Tianjin RTVU’s 5th Learning Festival and the 56th Anniversary were both held on the same day.

The four headquarters of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (the Headquarters of the General Staff, the General Political Department, the General Logistics Department, and the General Armament Department) recently issued a notification announcing the winners of the 2013 Excellent Sergeants First Prize among all PLA officers and soldiers.

From 10th to 11th June, 2014, with the purpose of promoting exchange and cooperation in lifelong education across the strait, the “2014 Lifelong Education Forum between Chengdu and Taiwan”, sponsored by the Taiwanese Affairs Office of Chengdu and the Bureau of Education of Chengdu and undertaken by Chengdu RTVU, was held in Chengdu.

On 1 July 2014, the construction of an Information Platform for the OUC Credit Bank was formally launched and is expected to be put into trial operation at the beginning of 2015. 

The Information Platform for the OUC Credit Bank (hereinafter referred to as the “Information Platform”) is an important component of the digitization construction of the OUC, as well as one of the important infrastructure construction projects which make possible the accreditation, accumulation and transfer of learning outcomes.

On July 9, 2014, the Wukesong Campus of the Open University of China (OUC) was connected with Changdu Audio-Visual Centre via video through the OUC cloud classroom system. From that time forward, the distance training series has been made available to primary and middle school teachers in support of Tibetans in Tibet’s Changdu Prefecture via the Application of New Technologies in Education.
