On April 17, the 2014 TCSOL (short for “Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages”) Training of the Open University of China (the OUC) was officially launched in Wukesong distance teaching building. The first session of this training lasted six days, and was attended by almost 30 backbone teachers and teaching administrative staff from the Radio and TV Universities (RTVUs) of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Chengdu, Gansu and other provinces, as well as other universities and colleges, many of whom had attended the 2013 OUC TCSOL Training.

In April 18, 2014, the discussion meeting of the Open University of China’s (OUC) “new industrial workers’ development and training assistance project” scheme was held in Xi’an. 50 people attended the meeting, including university leaders, directors of relevant departments, experts and professors from the OUC and several local Radio and TV Universities (RTVUs).

After three years of investigation and demonstrations, the Open University of China (the OUC) recently completed its examination and approved the professional project and development scheme for the junior college “Senior Services and Management” programme.

The 28th Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Open Universities, known as AAOU, was convened in Hong Kong on 28-31 October 2014. The conference was organized by the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) with the theme of “Advancing Open and Distance Learning (ODL): Research and Practices”. More than 200 representatives from 17 countries and areas took part in this conference. Vice President Shaogang Zhang of the Open University of China (OUC) led a team of nine members to participate in the conference.

A “3D Guide Simulation Experiment & Training Room”, the first of its kind with an investment of a million yuan, was completed in Jiayuguan City of Gansu Province and was officially put into use recently in the Jiayuguan Branch of Gansu RTVU.  This has filled the gap of experiment and training teaching for tourism in Jiayuguan.

Recently, relying on the learning outcomes accreditation management information system, Shenzhen Radio and TV University (Shenzhen RTVU) has finished the first learning outcomes accreditation for more than 200 students. For those students who have obtained the credit accreditation, Shenzhen RTVU will waive a certain amount of tuition, which means previous learning outcomes made by students can bring a big “profit” in the later stage.

At the recent graduation ceremony of the Open University of China (OUC, aka China Central Radio and TV University, CCRTVU) Bayi College for experimental classes, a moving scene of beauty unfolded. For the first time, army officers studying via distance education were able to don their own unique graduation gowns. They could hardly contain their great pleasure.

On October 21-23, 2014, the Open University of China (OUC) held the Seminar on the OUC Learner Support System Construction in Changsha City, Hunan Province, to explore the structure of the OUC learner support system construction, to make the online teaching process practical, and to improve online teaching quality.
