The International Council for Open and Distance Education Standing Conference of Presidents 2014 (ICDE SCOP 2014)–the Presidents’Summit on Open Education Models was held in Indonesia from November 18th to 22nd. Vice President Li Ling of The Open University of China (OUC) attended the meeting and took part in discussions of related issues.
On November 13, 2014, The Open University of China (OUC) and the TRAMPIL Foundation of Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding on future cooperation in Beijing. Both parties expect to carry out wide ranging cooperation in the training of local teachers teaching Chinese in Indonesia, in order to help them improve their Chinese teaching ability, information technology and multi-media skills, familiarize themselves with blended teaching models that integrate distance teaching with offline teaching, and to bring mixed teaching models and distance teaching resources into the primary and secondary schools in Indonesia.
The 28th Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Open Universities, known as AAOU, was convened in Hong Kong on 28-31 October 2014. The conference was organized by the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) with the theme of “Advancing Open and Distance Learning (ODL): Research and Practices”. More than 200 representatives from 17 countries and areas took part in this conference. Vice President Shaogang Zhang of the Open University of China (OUC) led a team of nine members to participate in the conference.
Yan Bing, Vice President of the Open University of China (OUC), and Guo Xiaoxia, the OUC School of Agroforestry and Medicine, attended the high-level Sino-French forum on social security held in Paris, France. After the forum, they paid a visit to the service agencies for senior citizens in France.
On October 13, the 2014 Council Meeting of the Confucius Institute at Michigan State University was held at Henry Conference Center of Michigan State University. Via the video conferencing system, council members from China and America took part in the summit together to summarize the work completed in 2013 and 2014 and discuss their working plan for 2015.
The First Chinese-American Conference on E-Learning Resources was recently convened in Shengyang. The conference was held jointly by National Digital Learning Resources Centre, American Trivantis Company, Shengyang Radio and TV University (RTVU), and Enterprise and Education Research Centre of Peking University.
On the afternoon of August 29, 2014, a group of 3 delegates from Korea National Open University (KNOU) headed by Cho Namchul, President of KNOU, visited the Open University of China (OUC). Yang Zhijian, President of the OUC and Zhang Shaogang, Vice President of the OUC participated in the meeting.
The 8th International Conference and Workshops on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching (the 8th TCLT) was held in Tufts University in Boston, United States, from June 6th to 8th of 2014. The subject of this conference was “Technology Literacy and Chinese Language Teaching in the 21st Century”. The OUC sent representatives for the conference for which it was a sponsor.
