During the celebration of the 30th annual Teachers’ Day, the Ministry of Education, in harmony with “Decision on Honoring Excellent Teachers and Excellent Educators in the Nation” (Department of Personnel, MOE, No. 3 [2014]), announced 1,798 "excellent" teachers and 200 "excellent" educators who had been selected to receive this national honor for 2014.
According to “MOE’s Decision about Approving 2014 Award Winning Projects of State-level Teaching Achievement” (No. 8, Teachers, 2014), two of the OUC’s teaching projects have won state-level awards. According to the terms set forth in the “Regulation on Teaching Achievement Awards” published by the State Council, a total of 1,320 projects have been approved in 2014 by the State Council to win state-level teaching achievement awards, among which five projects were evaluated as worthy of special awards for state-level teaching achievements, 148 were awarded first prizes, and 1,167 awarded second prizes.
On 24 September 2014, Beijing Educational Evaluation Institute visited the Open University of China (OUC) to conduct a survey. The survey aims to assess the development and construction situation since the establishment of the OUC was approved by the State; investigate if the current running mechanism can guarantee the overall operation of the OUC and meet the need for undergraduate teaching; and find out if there is an institutional guarantee for the OUC’s orientation.
The development and operation of the online courses and the 1st Sino-Norwegian High-level Seminar on MOOC was held in Beijing on September 18-20, 2014.
The seminar was jointly organized by the Research and Development Centre for Technology Integration and the Application of Digital Learning, the Ministry of Education and the Training Centre of the Open University of China (OUC).
On 29 August 2014, a Workshop on the Application of Standards for Learning Outcomes Accreditation of the Credit Bank of the OUC was held in Beijing. At the workshop the experience in formulating the accreditation standards was summarized , and the standard accreditation models were further identified , including "Course sharing and mutual credit recognition", "Dual-certificate integration" and the "Construction of a lifelong learning pathway”.
From the 18th to the 23rd of August of 2014, MOE Research & Training Centre for Community Education held the second “Lifelong Learning Lawmaking and Legal System Research Senior Training Class” at Lanzhou city of Gansu Province. The class aimed to promote progress in nationwide legislation related to lifelong education, encouraging more cities to join in establishing their own programmes of lifelong education as soon as possible, so as to provide practical legal protection for the lifelong learning of citizens in our country, and to promote the development of lifelong education.
From June 8th to 21st of 2014, No. 1403 advanced class for backbone teachers in business administration programme of the OUC was held in Beijing. This class lasted for two weeks, with a total of 66 backbone teachers from all provincial and municipal RTVUs in the country taking part in it. Party Secretary of the OUC Li Ling attended the commencement and issued course completion certificates for those teachers who finished the training.
“China Distance Education Academic Forum”, hosted by the Open University of China (OUC) and co-sponsored by Heilongjiang Radio and TV University (RTVU), Jilin RTVU, Liaoning RTVU, and Distance Education in China magazine, was held in Harbin on 7 June 2014. Fourteen representatives participated in academic exchanges centred on the topic “construction of open universities and old industrial base revitalization in the northeast of China”.
The 2014 enrollment meeting of The Open University of China (OUC) was convened in Harbin on June 6. The meeting summarized the OUC's enrollment for the spring of 2014, outlined enrollment goals for the autumn of 2014, and summarized the preparation of “The assistance plan of training and development for new-type industrial workers” (“assistance plan” for short).

The 2014 appraisal and selection results of the Open University of China (OUC) have been compiled, and 33 courses from 15 branches and two discipline schools have been announced as receiving "excellent" status.
In order to further boost the curricula construction of the OUC, improve course and teaching resource quality, and promote the co-construction and sharing of high quality teaching resources, in April, the OUC officially began the appraisal and selection of "excellent" courses for 2014.
