On July 3, 2013, the MOE Research and Development Center for the Integration and Application of Digital Learning Technologies (hereinafter referred to as the R & D Centre) was inaugurated in the Open University of China (OUC). Professor Liu Yanshen, Vice Director of the National Engineering Research Center for E-learning and the OUC President Yang Zhijiang unveiled the center.

The Office of the Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education for Education and Instruction in Vocational Education (hereinafter referred to as “the office”) held a workshop on “Vocational Higher Education Reform and the Construction of Pilot Schemes in Open Universities” in Wuhan from June 20-21, 2013. The workshop was attended

On May 16, 2013, The Open University of China (OUC) successfully convened a video conference on teaching inspection for open education in 2012. The OUC’s schools and teaching management departments submitted comments on, and solutions for, the problems existing within the inspection process, and gave feedback to the regional RTVUs. 

In order to deepen the community education work of its “i-Lab”, the Ministry of Education Community Education Research Training Center (hereinafter referred to as “the center”) held a workshop at Tianjin “i-Calligraphy Lab” (Tianjin RTVU Calligraphy School) on May 21, 2013 to discuss the future of the lab.

A Teachers’ Forum on Distance Education in China with the theme of “The Construction and Operation of Course Teaching Teams” was held in Xiamen, Fujian on March 27, 2013. 16 teachers engaged in agriculture, medicine and engineering teaching in the RTVU system made presentations.

Nearly 70 teachers from RTVUs and open universities nationwide came to Beijing to attend the first and second advanced training classes of 2013 hosted by the OUC’s School of Agroforestry and Medicine on April 15, 2013. The classes, which include agricultural and medical training, were co-designed by the School of Education and the School of Agroforestry and Medicine.

On March 20-21, the OUC held a conference for the official launch of a pilot project to establish local colleges and learning centers. A number of research proposals were discussed during the conference. The pilot project and research proposals were examined and approved in accordance with the general requirements of the OUC’s operating mechanism. During the conference, it was also decided that Tianjin Open University would be included in the pilot project.

An academic seminar about the construction of a curriculum system for the Computer Science and Technology of the OUC’s School of Engineering was held in Beijing on March 21, 2013.

 

Development of Open and Distance Education in 2012

In the past year, considerable progress has been made in open and distance education in China as well as in other countries.

On March 14, 2013, the Open University of China (OUC) convened a cloud classroom construction conference in Beijing. The conference included information and discussion related to the OUC cloud
