In April 2017, the Open University of China’s (OUC) Long March Belt Educational Project Targeted at Alleviating Poverty was formally initiated. Taking funds from its already tight budget, in an effort to block the intergenerational transmission of poverty, the OUC has moved to “root out poverty” in 25 poverty-stricken counties along the route of the Long March Belt covered by the Red Army. Since April 2017, the OUC has mobilised all of its system to promote the implementation of this ambitious and significant project.
The results of the Open University of China (OUC) system Teachers' Painting Competition, themed at “Forty Years Pass in a Flash, Leaving Fruitful Art in Their Wake: In Commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Establishment the Radio and TV University Approved by President Deng Xiaoping,” were recently revealed. Ninety-two award-winning works, 46 of which are paintings and 46 of which are calligraphy works, were selected. There were one special prize, five first prizes, ten second prizes, thirty third prizes, and several excellent prizes.
On 26 December 2018, a meeting to summarise the multimodal teaching reform pilot work of the Open University of China's (OUC) new public English course in autumn 2018 and a preparatory meeting for the second round of pilot start-up work was held in Handan, Hebei Province. Some of the students from the pilot multimodal teaching reform also put on a performance.
On 26 December 2018, the Open University of China (OUC) held a meeting on quality work in Beijing. The meeting aimed to exchange and summarise the work experience of quality management in the OUC, focus on the key links of quality assurance, and discuss the concept of quality work under the new situation. Lin Yu, vice president of the OUC, and the leaders and department heads responsible for quality and teaching in some branch schools participated in the meeting, which was chaired by Han Yi, director of the Quality Monitoring and Evaluation Centre.
On 27-28 December, 2018, the 2018 Annual Conference and Seminar of the E-Learning Alliance of National Community Education (“the alliance”) was held in Chongqing. The conference was hosted by it the Research and Training Center for Community Education of the Ministry of Education (MOE), and organised with the help of the Jiulongpo Community Education College in Chongqing.
