Beijing, 12 June 2025 – The Open University of China (OUC) convened a meeting, preparing for the final exams of the 2025 spring term. OUC Vice President LI Song attended and addressed the session, which was presided over by GU Xiaohua, Director of the Academic Affairs Department.
Vice President LI highlighted that OUC is currently at a pivotal stage in its high-quality development. Examination work as the “touchstone” for educational quality, is of incredible importance. We must integrate standardised management, deepened reform, and digital empowerment to carry out the examination work, which will contribute to advancing comprehensively educational reform, fostering virtue through education, and nurturing a new generation of high-quality workers.
Vice President LI raised three requirements:
Firstly, examination work must be standardised to solidify the foundation for high-quality development. Standardisation is the cornerstone of examination work, and the entire educational system must collaborate closely to ensure the robust implementation of all related tasks.
Secondly, the university will deepen examination reform to inject new vitality into teaching and education. In 2025, OUC will continue pilot reforms to examination content, focusing on “demand orientation and integration of learning and application.” By aligning with the principles of adult education and the characteristics of on-the-job learning, the university aims to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of talent cultivation in open education.
Thirdly, OUC will promote digital empowerment to build a new ecosystem for intelligent assessment. The university will integrate deeply into the national educational digitalisation strategy action plan, leveraging a unified network and platform, and a digital foundation. It will construct an intelligent assessment system driven by technology, empowered by data, and restructured by an ecosystem, covering both examination content and form. Vice President LI said mutual support and cooperation within the educational system should be enhanced for the scientific nature, fairness, and diagnostic functions of examinations through digital empowerment, providing a core driving force for the digital transformation of open education.
CHENG Qian, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Department, introduced the overall situation of the examination work for the spring term of 2025, outlined the organisational requirements for the final examinations, and clarified the existing challenges and the next steps in the examination work.
Participants from the headquarters' Academic Affairs Department and the Experimental College attended the activity on-site, while heads of 63 branches (colleges) and their affiliated units joined online. The meeting facilitated the exchange of ideas and measures to promote the standardisation and high-quality development of examination work, laying the foundation for the smooth conduct of the final examinations in the 2025 spring term. It further strengthened the consensus on deepening comprehensive educational reform and reinforcing the OUC system.
