Lanzhou, 29 July - FAN Xianrui, Vice President of the Open University of China (OUC) and the Seniors University of China (SUC), visited Gansu Open University and had a meeting on senior and digital education.
WANG Zhongxian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Gansu Open University; DENG Xiaojuan, President of the Gansu Open University; WU Wancai, Vice President of the Gansu Open University; and heads from the Office of Party Committee and Administration, School of Community Education, Gansu Seniors University, and Information Centre attended the meeting which was presided by DENG Xiaojuan.
During the meeting, relevant departments from Gansu Open University presented the university’s progress in senior education and digital infrastructure. After listening to the report, OUC Vice President FAN Xianrui stressed that this year marks a pivotal year for implementing the guiding principles proposed at the National Conference on Education and the 2024–2035 Master Plan on Building China into a Leading Country in Education. OUC pursues a strategic mission of empowering lifelong education through digitalization while serving the development of a learning society and nation. It equally prioritizes degree and non-degree education, striving to enhance the quality of open education, strengthen the Seniors University of China, and pioneer the establishment of a digital university. OUC is committed to becoming China’s leading platform for lifelong education, online education, senior education, and international cooperation, providing concrete support for building a ubiquitous and accessible lifelong education system.
Vice President FAN also praised Gansu Open University’s substantial progress in advancing senior education and digital education development. She encouraged the university to strengthen its application-oriented approach, consolidate digital infrastructure foundations, and deepen the reform of integrating digital technologies throughout the entire teaching process and all educational elements. She emphasized enhancing collaboration with departments at all levels and diverse sectors of society to establish a new synergy mechanism for senior education. The university should aim to foster an innovative paradigm featuring joint curriculum development, shared faculty training, collaborative scientific research, co-hosted achievement exhibitions, seamlessly integrated platform services, and collectively promoted model programs.
The delegation visited Zaolinxi Community in Anning District, Lanzhou, observing innovative practices in senior and community education based on grid service systems. Officials and staffs from OUC’s Department of Digitalisation, Seniors University of China and Engineering Research Centre also attended the visit and meeting.
