On the morning of 18 March 2021, the Open University of China (OUC) held the first of a series of Youth Academic Salon "Discussions of the Two Sessions", referring to the National People’s Congress (NPC) and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) sessions, with the aim of both studying and implementing their guidance in a spirit of urgency and responsibility, and of dedication on the part of young faculty and staff to the great mission of strengthening the country. Ju Chuanjin, OUC vice president, was invited to address the salon, which was presided over by Chen Shougang, director of the Office of Scientific Research Management.

2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan. It is also an extremely crucial year for reform and development of the Open University of China (OUC).

The Open University of China (OUC) held its second online workshop for teachers from the Institute of Teachers’ Professional Development of Mongolia (ITPD) on 16 March 2021, at the invitation of the UNESCO Beijing Office and ITPD. The workshop was themed around online course design with the aim of helping Mongolian teachers master the basic skills of online instruction and improve their online teaching abilities.

Recently, Harbin Open University received a letter of thanks from the Open University of China (OUC) Learning Centre at the China-Zambia Vocational and Technical School (CZVTS) in Zambia, expressing gratitude for the university's donation of materials to help it fight Covid-19.

Profile: Tang Jiangpeng is a Chinese Language graduate of Shaanxi Open University (Shaanxi OU), and is now principal of Xishan Senior High School in Jiangsu Province; his other titles include Special-grade Chinese-language Teacher and Senior Middle-school Teacher.

In March 2021, the Learning Resources Department (Digital Library) of the Open University of China (OUC) was named "Outstanding March 8th Organisation for Central and State Organs". With its determination, bravery, and crisis-readiness, the department team, through its excellence and good spirits, demonstrates the self-confidence and self-reliance valued at the OUC.

Profile: Liu Yonghao, a native of Chengdu in Sichuan province, graduated with a degree in Electronics from the Sichuan branch, class of 1979. He is a senior engineer, and board chair and president of the New Hope Group, chair of New Hope Investments, chair of Sichuan New Hope Agriculture, chair of Shandong Liuhe, a supervisor with Minsheng Life Insurance, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and deputy director of Economic Committee of the CPPCC.

Profile: Chai Shanshan, a member of the Han ethnic group, comes from Laohekou in Hubei Province. He entered the Administrative Management programme at the Shanghai Branch of the Open University of China (OUC) in 2016, and now works receiving and delivering mail at the Central Bureau of the Shanghai Postal District of China Post Corporation. He was also a deputy to the 15th Shanghai People's Congress and the 13th National People's Congress.
