In order to implement the rural revitalisation strategy, consolidate and expand the achievements of poverty alleviation, and help with rural revitalisation, the Chinese Veterinary Medical Association organised the collection of cases of “Veterinarians’ Action in Rural Revitalisation” in 2022, calling for cases from relevant practitioners, public government institutions, and enterprises engaged in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.

Having passed the strict evaluation and selection of experts, the One College Student Per Village Programme of the Ministry of Education: Exploration and Practice of Cultivating Practical Local Grassroots Talents for Veterinary Medicine over 18 Years was successfully selected as an excellent case.

As one of the first majors offered and supported by the One College Student Per Village Programme of the MOE, the Open University of China’s (OUC) Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine programme aims to cultivate practical and skilled high-quality grassroots talents with modern information technology. Over the past 19 years since the setup of the major, consistent efforts have been made in the construction of the curriculum system, the development of learning resources, the innovation of teaching form, the implementation of teaching process, and the exploration of a teaching model that allows students to complete their studies without having to leave their job or hometown, and the OUC has resolutely implemented the local training of practical talents. To date, a total of 34,119 graduates majoring in this programme have been cultivated across 29 provinces, municipalities, and regions, and more than half of which are doing jobs related to veterinary medicine. These graduates have become high-quality local talents taking root in rural areas. They have taken the lead in promoting entrepreneurship and achieving prosperity, advancing the structural transformation and upgrading of local animal husbandry industries, and bringing about huge social benefits. As such, they have been well recognised inside the industry. The excellent case successfully selected summarises the practice and experience of the MOE’s Veterinary Medicine major of the “One College Student Per Village Programme” in training practical local grassroots talents, and its enthusiastic service of rural revitalisation, which has been highly recognised by experts in the industry. The OUC is more determined and resolved than ever to cultivate local practical high-quality talents for veterinary medicine. Later, the association will publicise and share excellent cases through various channels, which will further expand the social popularity and influence of the OUC’s training of agricultural professionals and help polish its brand.
