On 3 January 2023, the Learning Resources Department (Digital Library) invited Professor Jiang Qiang of Northeast Normal University to deliver a lecture on adaptive learning.

Li Song, vice president of the Open University of China (OUC), gave a speech, and 205 teachers attended. The event aimed to implement the guidance of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, enhance the IT abilities of teachers, and keep up with advances in online education.

Li Song pointed out that an“Internet +” open university should give priority to methods and organisation over technology, as Huai Jinpeng of the MOE has stated, with application, service, guidance and safe operations emphasised. The OUC should use IT to empower teachers and realise the vision of “building an IT-based university”put forward by OUC president Jing Degang. The university will be offering lectures to enhance the IT literacy of teachers and promote its use in open education.

The lecture gave a detailed introduction to adaptive learning and its significance in online teaching, with a focus on the personalised adaptive-learning system developed by Professor Jiang’s team, including its theoretical framework, design, application, structure, system interfaces, and relevance to open education.

The OUC will continue to arrange events designed to enhance the IT capabilities of teachers, and work to make IT central to the high-quality development of open education.
