She is a student and also a choir teacher. Not only does she actively participate in the courses herself, but she also always motivates people around her to learn together. She is Lyu Xuemin, a student of the Panyu College of Guangzhou Open University for Older Adults.

Integrating into the City, Learning in Old Age

After retiring, Lyu followed her husband to Guangzhou, where she felt lonely due to being unfamiliar with the place and not being able to speak the local dialect.

By coincidence, she participated in a community elderly education public course offered by the Panyu College for the elderly aimed at immigrants in Guangzhou. She learned Cantonese through lectures and digital resources, and built a learning community with teachers and other students in a WeChat group. She went from having zero foundation to being able to sing Cantonese songs and chat in Cantonese.

Later, she also participated in a series of courses on "Application of New Technologies in Daily Life" and learned how to use mobile applications for online shopping, social chat, and more. In addition, she used a combination of physical textbooks and micro-video course materials to learn various scientific methods of raising grandchildren. Due to her diligent study, she was also awarded the title of "Common People Learning Star " by the community.

Being Active in Old Age, Never Giving Up

Lyu not only actively participates in the courses herself but also always motivates people around her to learn together.

After retiring, she participated in various community arts groups and often tutored and assisted other members. She also invited well-known experts to teach members and has helped over 600 students. Currently, she serves as a choir teacher at the Panyu College of Guangzhou Open University for Older Adults.

Being Enthusiastic in Public Welfare, Giving Back to the Community

With a grateful heart, Lyu gives back to society and to the city. After retiring, she actively engaged in public welfare and community cultural activities, and together with her husband, they participated in the establishment of the Panyu Xinghai Choir. They voluntarily provided cultural and art performance planning, directing, and other services for various organisations and communities.

She has been actively involved in various volunteer work, and was once named one of the "Top 100 Volunteers" in Guangzhou. She has also served as the vice president of the "First Philanthropic Team Cultural and Sports Salon" in Guangzhou and as a member of the "Family Education Service Promotion Association of Panyu District, Guangzhou".
