On May 8 the 7th three-day National Chinese Learning Conference (NCLC) was held in Los Angeles, U.S. More than 1,200 delegates, including education officials, school principals, Chinese education specialists, and teachers from across the U.S. and other countries, as well as participants from relevant education and teaching institutions, attended the conference. Distance Chinese teaching became one of the highlights of the conference.

The HSK test centre at the Open University of China (OUC) successfully held its first New HSK test at the Weigongcun campus on May 10, 2014, signifying the formal launch of its test centre. 

108 people successfully registered for the test, which was held across eight examination rooms, covering four HSK levels and three HSKK levels. On the day of the test, special staff has been assigned to meet the examinees and guide them to the examination rooms.

In recent years, in order to recruit various types of excellent talents from diverse corners of society to settle down in Guangdong and participate in socio-economic development efforts, the Guangdong provincial government has gradually implemented a “Credit Accumulation for Household Registration” policy in cities under its jurisdiction. Based upon the policy and relying on Guangzhou’s digital learning system, Guangzhou RTVU integrated its impressive resources and launched the vocational skills accreditation training programme.

The computer training class for the elderly, organized by the Experimental School of  Zhejiang RTVU for the Elderly and the Training School (Zhejiang Instruction Centre for Community Education), reopened again recently. This training class is adopting a small-class format, introducing courses at the “RTVU’s Tea Centre,” which were developed independently by the Zhejiang RTVU Training School. The class has already had five sessions.

To establish and propagate excellent models of contemporary youth, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the China Youth Federation elected to award 30 comrades, represented by Wang Hongbing, with the 18th China May 4th Youth Medal. RTVU students Li Zhihui, Chen Qingcheng and Tan Zhongneng were honoured with the award. 

Ms. Li Zhihui, the Han nationality, was born in October 1982, and is a member of the Communist Party of China. She earned her bachelor’s degree in engineering management from Jiangsu RTVU, and is now a senior engineer and head of the sewer team from the Administration Office of the Municipal Facilities of the Bureau of Urban-Rural Construction of Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province.  

On March 31st, the McCallum Cup Women Swiss Team Competition at the Spring North American Bridge Championship (NABC) came to a close in Dallas, Unites States.  The Chinese women’s team swept the gold and silver medals in the Women’s Team Competition, and a teacher from Lishui RTVU named Zhou Lihua, representing the first Chinese women’s team to compete in the event, won second place, and partnered with Shen Qi to win the gold medal in the Open Pairs Competition.

With the rapid development of information technology, studying at different terminals has become one of the most convenient and effective learning styles in modern society. For Radio and TV Universities (RTVUs), particularly, mobile learning has also become an important component of developing a “learning society” and “learning campus.” As smart mobile phones become increasingly popular, mobile learning has been changing traditional teaching models and gradually becoming part of students’ experience of the open education at Xi’an RTVU.
