On 20 June 2019, the Open University of China (OUC) held a symposium for famous teachers and experts at its Wukesong campus to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the OUC, showcase the achievements of the school since its establishment, and review the forty years of hard work.

In order to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Open University of China (OUC), on 21 June 2019, a number of outstanding alumni were invited to return to the OUC to participate in the celebration activities.

21 June 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Open University of China (OUC). Over the past forty years, the Chinese open university system has started from scratch and gained maturity in its process of explorative development and carrying forward pilot programmes, and the current OUC has gradually taken shape. It has taken a road to development that is rooted in China, in line with China's national conditions, and enriched with Chinese characteristics.

At 10 am on 21 June 2019, the conference to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Open University of China (OUC) was held.

Wen Zhihui, an associate professor, graduated from Hunan Normal University with a Bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Literature, and arrived at Hunan Radio and Television University (Hunan RTVU) in 2000 to teach, and work as course coordinator, in the Chinese Language and Literature undergraduate programme. She now serves as deputy dean of the Department of Arts and Law, and head of Chinese Language Teaching and Research Section at Hunan RTVU.

Chen Songju is a staff member of Dagong (Shanghai) Computer Company. She majored in Business Management at Shanghai Open University (Shanghai OU) from 2010 until 2013, and was elected deputy to the 16th National Congress of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions as well as the 14th and 15th Shanghai Municipal People's Congresses. She has also been named a“National Excellent Migrant Worker”.

On the 40th anniversary of Open University of China (OUC), 150 students from the Wontone Automotive Learning Centre of the OUC Experimental School and their parents participated in a meeting to allow the students to thank their parents.

On the morning of 30 May 2019, the Faculty of Economics and Management held a symposium for young teachers in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Open University of China (OUC). All of the faculty’s young and middle-aged teachers gathered together at the symposium, which was chaired by Liu Zhimin, director of the faculty, to talk about their ideals, development and growth.
