In order to implement the spirit of Several Opinions on Deepening the Reform and Innovation of Ideology and Politics Theory Courses in the New Era issued by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council, in which it is required that the Party secretary and president of the university should take the lead in teaching ideology and politics courses every semester.
On the morning of 18 October 2019, Jing Degang, Party secretary and president of the Open University of China (OUC) gave the first lecture for the Situation and Policy course, titled "The Chinese economy is stable and far-reaching.” This course is taught via simultaneous live broadcast. Teachers and students from the Shandong Branch, the Shanxi Branch, the Zhejiang Branch, the Sichuan Branch, the Changchun Branch, the Ningbo Branch, and Nanhai Experimental School watched the live broadcast.
According to the regulations specified in Several Opinions on Strengthening the Construction of Situation and Policy Courses in Colleges and Universities in the New Era issued by the Ministry of Education (Education and Social Science [2018] No. 1) and Basic Requirements for the Teaching of Ideology and Politics Theory Courses in Colleges and Universities in the New Era (Education and Social Science) [2018] No. 2), the Situation and Policy course is a compulsory requirement for junior college and undergraduate students each semester. According to the OUC's curriculum construction plan for the Situation and Policy course, the Marxist School plans to record four lectures in the autumn semester of 2019, with each lecture lasting 90 minutes. Jing Degang recorded the first lecture.
During his lecture, Jing Degang explained China’s current overall economic situation from four aspects: the overall stability of the Chinese economy; stable yet progressive development; new risks and challenges; and long-term prospects. He guided students in understanding potential resources and endogenous motivation in China's economic development and increasing their confidence in the sustained and healthy development of China's economy. The lecture cited case studies from China and abroad using the latest economic data, and explained the complicated economic content in a simple and easy-to-understand way.
The OUC Party committee attaches great importance to the construction of ideology and politics theory courses and has conscientiously implemented the documentary spirit of Several Opinions on Deepening the Reform and Innovation of Ideology and Politics Theory Courses in the New Era. The Party secretary and president of the OUC took the lead in teaching ideology and politics course, which has opened a new chapter for the effective study of the Situation and Policy course and is conducive to promoting the in-depth development of ideological and political education for OUC students.
