From 5-7 December 2018, a seminar on teaching work for the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering major of the Open University of China (OUC), and a meeting of the Teaching and Research Central Group, was held in Quanzhou, Fujian Province. More than 50 teachers, including members from the Teaching and Research Central Group and leaders of the major from the headquarters and branches of the OUC, attended the meeting.
On the 5 December 2018, a work conference for the Confucius Institute at Michigan State University (CI-MSU) was held in Chengdu. As the Chinese institution of CI-MSU, the Open University of China (OUC) hosted the meeting and summarised 2018 work, as well as discussing future innovative cooperation steps.
The 13th Confucius Institute Conference was held in Chengdu from 4-5 December 2018.
On the 6th and 7th of December, 2018, the OUC Seminar on the Construction of Online Teaching Teams for Economic Management Courses was convened in Xiamen. It aimed to summarise the work experience of participants in this area and enhance the recognition and quality of their work. Thirty-one team members from OUC headquarters and branches participated.
The 2018 seminar on teaching reform and the work of the teaching research central group of the computer science major of the Open University of China (OUC), was held in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, from 28-30 November 2018. During the conference, the construction of key computer science majors was studied, new majors to be launched in spring 2019 were introduced, the work of the teaching research central group was summarised, and the teaching experience of different branches was exchanged.
In order to implement the Chinese government’s Belt and Road Initiative and respond to the call for "Chinese Vocational Education to Go Global", spread Chinese culture, and promote the connection of common people's minds, the vice president of the Open University of China (OUC),Yang Xiaotang, and his delegation, were invited to visit S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University (PSU) of Kazakhstan, NFC Kazakhstan LTD, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Almaty) JSC, Tajik Technical University (TTU), and Tajikistan Palute LTD from 21-28 November, 2018. The delegation reached preliminary cooperation intentions.
On 29 November 2018, Yang Zhijian, secretary of the Party Committee and president of the Open University of China (OUC), received a visit by a team led by Mr. Paul Kett, director of Education Standards, Department for Education, UK.
The second plenary session of the Second Academic Committee of the Open University of China (OUC) and the meeting of the sub-committees of various disciplines was held in Beijing from 29 November to 1 December 2018. The first eight research centres of the OUC were granted with plaques at the meeting. Yang Zhijian, secretary of the OUC Party Committee and OUC president, and Liu Chen, deputy secretary of the OUC Party Committee, attended the meeting and made speeches. Yang Xiaotang, vice president and chairman of the OUC Academic Committee, made a work report.
