On 1 January, 2019, for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Open University of the UK (OU,UK), its Institute of Educational Technology, in conjunction with the Norwegian Centre for the Science of Learning and Technology, published "Innovating Pedagogy 2019", the seventh report of its kind (https://iet.open.ac.uk/file/innovating-agogy-2019.pdf). 10 teaching innovations were described in the report, including learning by play, learning with robots, decolonised learning, drone-based learning, learning through wonder, action learning, virtual studios, place-based learning, making thinking visible, and roots of empathy.

On 27 December 2018, Changchun Radio & TV University (Changchun RTVU) held a teaching-achievement exhibition for its School for Older Adults. Students, faculty and RTVU leadership gathered to witness the achievements of the year.

According to the Notice on the Decision of the Ministry of Education on Approving the 2018 Award-Winning Projects of the National Teaching Achievement Awards (Jiao Shi [2018] No. 21) recently issued by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the project “The Systematic Construction of a National Credit Bank System for Vocational Education” led by vice president Li Linshu of the Open University of China (OUC) won first prize at the National Teaching Achievement Awards for Vocational Education, a historical breakthrough for the OUC.

In a recent evaluation of online open courses by the Ministry of Education (MOE), a total of 801 courses were recognised. One of these was the Android Smart Phone Programming course of Professor Wang Li of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the Open University of China (OUC).

The Seventh International Conference on Educational Innovation through Technology (EITT 2018) was held from 12-15 December 2018 in Auckland, New Zealand, with the theme of “Educational Innovation through the Internet.” Yuan Wei, deputy director of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the Open University of China (OUC), together with four other OUC delegates, attended the conference.

On 24 December, 2018, an exhibition called "Excellent Student Work from the Online Traditional Chinese Landscape-Painting Class", a National Arts Fund project sponsored by the Open University of China (OUC), kicked off a one-week run at the OUC Wukesong Campus. OUC leaders attended, including Party Committee secretary and president Yang Zhijian, who expressed interest in the integration of the project with the credit-banking system, and was impressed by the work on display.

In April 2017, the Open University of China’s (OUC) Long March Belt Educational Project Targeted at Alleviating Poverty was formally initiated. Taking funds from its already tight budget, in an effort to block the intergenerational transmission of poverty, the OUC has moved to “root out poverty” in 25 poverty-stricken counties along the route of the Long March Belt covered by the Red Army. Since April 2017, the OUC has mobilised all of its system to promote the implementation of this ambitious and significant project.

 "Carry out Project on Cultivation of Rural College Students and Assist Rural Revitalisation", a case study from Sichuan Radio and TV University (Sichuan RTVU), was recently selected by Sichuan Provincial Education Department for a list of award-winning typical cases of innovation and development in educational reform.
