On the afternoon of 19 May 2020, the Open University of China (OUC) and UNESCO signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). Jing Degang, OUC president and secretary of its Party Committee, and Marielza Oliveira, director and representative of the UNESCO Beijing Cluster Office, signed on behalf of the respective parties at a signing ceremony. The ceremony was also attended by deputy secretary general Mr Zhou Jiagui and director of the Department of Education Ms Jia Nan from the Secretariat of Chinese National Commission for UNESCO.

From 24-28 December 2019, at the invitation of Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University (PSU) in Kazakhstan, a delegation of four members from the Open University of China(OUC) visited Almaty and Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, and discussed cooperation with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Almaty) JSC, PSU, and NFC Kazakhstan LTD, a part of China Nonferrous Metal Construction Corporation Ltd. subordinate to China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group(CNMC) based in Kazakhstan.

From 12-13 December 2019, 15 teachers and students from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) paid a two-day cultural exchange visit to the OUC. The delegation was led by executive vice president of STOU, associate professor Thapanat Prom-In, along with four teachers and 10 students from the Faculty of Arts, the School of Management, the School of Law, the School of Human Ecology, and the School of Politics.

From 1-8 December 2019, a delegation of five members of the Open University of China (OUC) led by Zhang Luanjiao, head of the Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development, visited Zambia and Botswana at the invitation of Sino-Zam Vocational College of Science and Technology and Botswana Open University to learn about the operation of the OUC Learning Centre in Zambia and to investigate future cooperation with Botswana Open University.

Professor Frank Youngman, vice president of Botswana Open University (BOU), visited the Open University of China (OUC) on 29 April 2019 while he was attending the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

On 22 April 2019, a delegation from Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) visited the Open University of China (OUC).

On 25 May 2017, a delegation headed by Prof. Peter Reichling of the Otto-von-Guericke Business School Magdeburg visited the Experimental School of the OUC to discuss a joint-education programme. Zhang Jimin, chair of the council of the Beijing International Institute of Asia-Europe Education and Culture (AEEC Beijing), and Yao Bo, its dean, joined the discussions.

From 6 to 20 November 2019, the Open University of China (OUC) sent fifteen backbone tutors from its organisational system to take part in a 15-day academic training programme at Michigan State University (MSU), marking the first kind of overseas training organised by the OUC for its faculty members. Eleven tutors were from the OUC headquarters and four others came from the Hunan, Hainan, Wuhan, and Chengdu Branches.
