Shenyang, 16 April 2025 - The Open University of China (OUC) Education Foundation recently held a donation ceremony for the "Huiling Seniors’ Culture Hub" project in Liaoning.
The event, held at Fengze Community in Heping District, Shenyang, was attended by key officials including JU Chuanjin, Chairman of the OUC Education Foundation; ZHOU Qiang, Director of Liaoning Provincial Department of Civil Affairs; SUN Changfu, Director of Shenyang Municipal Education Bureau; ZOU Jidong, Deputy Director of Shenyang Civil Affairs Bureau; and PENG Guanglei, District Mayor of Heping.
JU Chuanjin emphasised that the "Huiling Seniors’ Culture Hub" project establishes an innovative elderly care service system through "three integrated approaches": integrating spatial networks with educational systems, combining intergenerational exchange with cultural preservation, and merging smart services with humanistic care. Shenyang was selected as the inaugural site in Northeast China due to its rich cultural heritage and time-honoured traditions of respecting elders.
Moving forward, “Huiling Seniors’ Culture Hub” will continue to refine its “public welfare + education + elderly care” service model. Through standardised development and professional operation, it aims to realise the inspiring vision of “ensuring seniors have opportunities for learning, enjoyment, and meaningful engagement,” and to offer positive solutions to addressing population ageing challenges.
The “Huiling Seniors’ Culture Hub” public welfare project was established in 2023, extending services to communities, nursing homes, and other places with relatively concentrated elderly populations. By creating dedicated physical spaces for the elderly, the project offers services such as intangible cultural heritage handicraft workshops, recreational games, online courses, and reading activities to enhance seniors’ physical and mental wellbeing.
