The Third Session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the Third Session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) commenced respectively in Beijing on 4th and 5th March 2025. President XI Jinping and other Party and state leaders attended the sessions, where NPC deputies and CPPCC members deliberated on national affairs, charted the course for development, and envisioned the grand prospects of Chinese modernisation. Faculty members of the Open University of China (OUC) actively followed the proceedings, engaged in in-depth study and thinking.

During the Two Sessions, the topic of artificial intelligence and education has attracted widespread attention. President XI Jinping emphasised the significance to strengthen education’s role in underpinning science, technology, and talent cultivation. He reiterated the importance of implementing the national strategy for digitalisation of education and building a learning society. As instructors of ideological and political education, we must stay focused on the goal of enhancing ideological guidance, actively embrace artificial intelligence, innovate teaching methods, optimise curriculum design, and explore new models of "AI + Ideological and Political Education." By leveraging AI to empower ideological and political education, we can contribute to the cultivation of high-quality talent.

The 2025 Government Work Report highlights the need to actively respond to population ageing and develop the silver economy. This reminded me of some scenes in our classrooms - where learners record their audiobooks vividly, capture community life through cameras, and create micro-films about their own stories. These vivid examples have given me a deep understanding of how the "silver economy" is reshaping the essence of education for older adults. We are not merely cultivating individual skills; we are nurturing cultural inheritors, digital creators, and chroniclers of history. When voice training in the classroom was transformed into a talent pool for the audiobook industry, and short videos made by the seniors become vehicles for urban branding, elderly education transcends the boundaries of its traditional understanding, achieving a dual empowerment of social value and economic benefits. As a teacher for older adults, I will continue to nurture this fertile ground with my expertise and warmth, ensuring that every senior in their twilight years blossoms with their own brilliance in this era.

The 2025 Government Work Report emphasises the continued advancement of the "AI Plus" initiative. Today, the education sector has become one of the key applied areas of "AI Plus". As a faculty member of OUC, I will actively embrace the digital wave with an open vision, and look to the future. Furthermore, I will strive to make my contribution to enhancing the capacity of open education to serve the people and contribute to building a ubiquitous and accessible lifelong learning system.
ZHANG Xiaobang, Department of Digitalisation
As the Two Sessions unfold, the national education digitalisation strategy continues to advance, marking China's response through systematic transformation to the proposition of the time - the construction of "a leading country in education". During the first "Minister Corridor" press briefing of the Two Sessions, Minister of Education HUAI Jinpeng announced that China would release a White Paper on Artificial Intelligence in Education this year. This document is expected to serve as a guiding framework for leveraging technology to empower education, helping to resolve the challenges of balancing large-scale education with individualised learning. As professionals in education digitalisation, we are committed to using technologies to support lifelong human development, transforming policies and blueprints into educational benefits for the 1.4 billion people, and contributing Chinese insight and Chinese solutions to global education development.
