On 11 June 2024, OUC holds a publicity event on the “Spirit of Educators”. Six members of the 2024 "Spirit of Educators" touring publicity team, organised by MOE, presented reports. The event was conducted both online and offline. Meanwhile, around 51,000 individuals from the educational system participated in the collective learning session online.
12. OUC holds a symposium on integrated collaborative advancement of high-quality innovative development in open education.
On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of OUC, it hosted a symposium titled "Integrated Collaborative Advancement of High-Quality Innovative Development in Open Education" on 21 June 2024. Wang Guangyan, Vice Education Minister of China, attended the symposium and delivered a speech. At the symposium, it was noted that the establishment of open universities is a great innovation in the history of higher education, a significant milestone in building a lifelong education system, and an important step in collectively advancing the construction of a learning society in China. At the symposium, it was emphasised that the open universities should proceed from building a leading country in education, seize the historical opportunity, accelerate the construction of a world-class open university with Chinese characteristics, and achieve new milestones in building a learning society. The Secretary and President Conference of Open Universities in China has proposed the "1234" strategy and the conference focused on strategies for digital empowerment of lifelong learning for the construction of a learning-oriented society and nation.
13. 2024 “1+7” Paired Assistance Work Conference for Qinghai OU Convenes
To study and implement the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and the key points of General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech during his visit to Qinghai, and to follow the directives of the Ministry of Education's 2024 aid plan for Qinghai as well as the "14th Five-Year Plan" Framework Agreement on Educational Support and Assistance between the Open University of China (OUC) and Qinghai Open University (OU), the "1+7" paired assistance work conference for Qinghai OU was held at the Qinghai Conference Centre on 16 July 2024. Yang Zhiwen, Vice Governor of Qinghai Province and Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee’s Education Work Leading Group, and Wang Qiming, President and Party Committee Secretary of OUC, delivered speeches at the event.
14. OUC hosted a signing ceremony for a partnership providing training for domestic service workers and hosted a workshop on professional ethics and competency development.
On 26 July 2024, OUC hosted a signing ceremony for partnership providing professional ethics training for domestic service workers and hosted a workshop on professional ethics and competency development. During the event, OUC signed an agreement with the Department of Trade in Services under the Ministry of Commerce providing professional ethics and professional competency courses for domestic workers. Building on the 840 hours of domestic vocational skills training courses launched in 2023, OUC will progressively introduce 230 hours of courses. These courses will be accessible for free to domestic service workers nationwide, allowing them to enhance their skills and professionalism through online learning.

On 30 July, three Party branches of OUC were named as “Four Strengths” Party branches of the central and state organs.
16. OUC Partners with iFLYTEK and Huawei to Advance Digital Education
In July, Wang Qiming, President of OUC, led a delegation to the headquarters of iFLYTEK Co., Ltd. in Hefei, Anhui Province and to Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. in Shenzhen. During these visits, strategic cooperation intentions were established with both iFLYTEK and Huawei. OUC aims to leverage the distinct strengths of each party, focusing on the digitalisation of education, cultivation of innovative multi-disciplinary professionals, and advancements in digital technologies. Through this collaboration, all parties intend to jointly champion a new structure for lifelong education empowered by digital intelligence.
17. The 2024 Annual Conference of the ASEAN-China Digital Education Alliance Held
On 21 August 2024, the ASEAN-China Digital Education Alliance (referred to as the Alliance) held its annual conference for the year in Guizhou. Representatives from universities, research institutions, and businesses from China and ASEAN countries came together to explore new avenues for cooperation in digital education under the theme "Connection, Cooperation, and Creation." The conference aimed to further enhance the integration, intelligence, and internationalisation of digital education collaborations between China and ASEAN. The meeting announced that Dr. Wang Qiming, President of OUC, would serve as Chairman of the Alliance. Fan Xianrui, Vice President of OUC, will serve as Secretary-General of the Alliance.
18. OUC deeply studies and implements the guiding principles of the National Conference on Education.
OUC deeply studies and implements the guiding principles of the National Conference on Education. A three-year action plan should will be formulated and implemented, focusing on the “two breakthroughs and two basics” goals. These goals include achieving breakthrough progress in the construction of a qualification framework and making significant breakthroughs in the development of a digital university. The University aims to fundamentally establish itself as a world-class open university with Chinese characteristics and to build a "support system" that serves a learning country. Efforts are being made to construct a ubiquitous and accessible lifelong education system, and to continuously advance the construction of a learning society and country through digital empowerment of lifelong education.
19. Students from OUC achieve remarkable success at the Paris Paralympics, securing 11 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze!
On 8 September 2024, the curtain fell on the 17th Summer Paralympic Games, wrapping up of an 11-day celebration of disabled sports in Paris, France. Students from the School for the Disabled at OUC showcased their exceptional talent and determination, clinching a total of 11 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. Their outstanding performances significantly bolstered the achievements of the Chinese sports delegation.
20. OUC, representing MOE, wins first prize in the Singing Competition Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of New China.
On 20 September, the choir of OUC, representing MOE, won first prize in a singing competition themed "An Ode to New China, Forging Ahead in the New Era". On 12 July, a singing competition (Ping'anli area) among central and state organs, was held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of New China. After intense competition, the choir of OUC, performed "The Yellow River Cantata," along with "Glorious China," representing MOE, and won first prize.
21. Launch ceremony of the joint initiative of “Happy Learning and Respecting the Elderly” was held in Beijing, along with the release of the first batch of SUC’s "TCM Master Lectures".
MOE held the launch ceremony of the joint initiative of “Happy Learning and Respecting the Elderly” on 9 October 2024, at OUC (SUC). The theme of the event was “Adhering to an Elderly People-Centred Approach and Building an Age-Friendly Society”. At the meeting, the education system’s joint initiative “Happy Learning and Respecting the Elderly” was launched. Additionally, the first batch of “TCM Master Lectures” from SUC was released, and the evaluation results of the 2024 Elderly University Teaching Achievements Exhibition were announced.
