On 22 November 2024, Wang Qiming, secretary of the Party Committee and president of the Open University of China (OUC), also known as the Seniors University of China (SUC), led a delegation to the SUC Xiamen Branch for a research visit.

At the symposium held during the visit, Wang Qiming recognised the substantial progress in local elderly education construction achieved by the Xiamen Branch, crediting the strong emphasis and support from the Xiamen Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. He affirmed that the SUC headquarters will continue to support the Xiamen Branch, advancing deep cooperation in specialised programme and elite course development, platform integration, sharing of high-quality educational resources, faculty development, and academic research to promote the high-quality development of elderly education in Xiamen.

The Xiamen Branch reported that, under the SUC's guidance, Xiamen Open University and Xiamen Senior Citizen University have synergised their resources, strengths, and development efforts. They have promoted the "six collaborations" and mobilised the city's efforts to explore a new model of elderly education with distinctive Xiamen characteristics, proposing specific measures to effectively manage the Xiamen Branch.

During the research visit, Wang Qiming was joined by Liao Huasheng, deputy mayor of Xiamen; Zhan Cangzhou, former standing committee member and president of Xiamen Senior Citizen University; Chen Xiuxin, deputy director of the Organisation Department of the Municipal Party Committee and director of the Bureau of Retired Cadres; Hong Jun, deputy director of the Municipal Education Bureau; and Tang Ning, president of Xiamen Open University, for the unveiling of the SUC Xiamen Branch plaque.

The research visit was also attended by relevant personnel from the OUC (SUC)'s Office of Party Affairs and Administration and the Comprehensive Management Centre of the SUC.
