On 5 March 2024, the Seniors University of China (SUC) celebrated the opening ceremony of its new branch at the Seniors University of the General Administration of Sport (GAS).

This significant event was honoured by the attendance of several distinguished guests: Wang Qiming, the Party Committee secretary and president of the Open University of China (OUC, also known as SUC), Jiang Xinghua, director and Party Committee secretary of the Bureau of Retired Cadres at the GAS, and Fan Xianrui, a Party Committee member and vice president of the OUC (SUC). The ceremony was gracefully hosted by Yin Jihong, deputy director of the Bureau of Retired Cadres, secretary of the Party Committee, and first-level inspector at GAS.

Wang Qiming extended his congratulations on the establishment of the GAS branch school at SUC. He highlighted that the creation of the GAS branch school represents a significant achievement stemming from the deep collaboration between the Bureau of Retired Cadres of GAS and SUC, as well as being an innovative step towards the integrated development of education for the elderly and sports & health initiatives. He also mentioned that SUC will offer its full support for the construction and development of the GAS branch school, with the aim of promoting the joint development of high-quality and refined courses, a shared public platform, and fostering an open working mechanism that encourages mutual discussion and collaboration. By utilizing the professional and resource advantages of GAS, our goal is to actively contribute to the Healthy China strategy and the development of SUC, positioning it as a key channel for elderly education, a major force in promoting proactive health maintenance, and a driving force in the development of the silver economy.

Jiang Xinghua stated that the creation of the GAS branch school at SUC represents a significant opportunity to enhance collaboration with SUC and leverage the unique characteristics and resource advantages of each institution. The goal is to consolidate resources, organise featured events, and work together to advance the high-quality development of education for the elderly.

Notable attendees at the event included Ding Dong, director of the Department of Mass Sports; Fan Wentao, deputy director of the Department of Economy; Liu Liqiang, deputy director of the Department of Personnel; and Long Shengjun, deputy director of the Department of Science and Education. Senior student representatives from the GAS branch school also participated in the event.
