On 12th January 2024, the National Education Platform for the Elderly officially integrated with the "Education Services" section of the special business service zone for seniors on the PC terminal of the State Government Affairs Platform.

This initiative provides older adults with tailored digital learning resources for distance education. It features high-quality courses and renowned educational columns from the Seniors University of China (SUC). The aim is to enhance the public service roles of both platforms, enabling seniors to access top-notch online learning resources and a flexible learning platform without leaving their homes.

The State Government Affairs Platform, sponsored by the General Office of the State Council and maintained by its Government Affairs Office, serves as a central hub within the national integrated service platforms for government affairs. This platform plays a crucial role in supporting the concept of "handling government affairs through an integrated network," significantly contributing to the advancement of the state governance system and the modernisation of governance capabilities. Furthermore, it aids in the development of digital governments. The "Special Business Service Zone for the Elderly" on the State Government Affairs Platform has consolidated over ten commonly used service items, including social security, medical insurance, and pandemic prevention, among others. These services are specifically tailored to assist the elderly in more effectively utilising these essential business services.

The "Education Services" section is a crucial component of the "Special Business Service Zone for the Elderly." This section offers thoughtfully designed learning content across six major categories: "Exquisite Courses," "Art Master Lectures," "Cloud Classroom," "Happy Learning Live Classes," "Reading Zone," and "Activities." In the future, the National Senior Education Public Service Platform will progressively interconnect with the State Government Affairs Platform through multiple devices. This integration aims to assist seniors in enjoying a smart lifestyle, thereby enhancing their sense of achievement, happiness, and security.

What are the highlights in the six categories of learning?

Exquisite Courses

In alignment with the SUC’s core missions of "cultivating virtue, pursuing lifelong learning, proactively maintaining health, embracing a joyful life, and achieving positive accomplishments," the National Education  Platform for the Elderly has amassed over four million minutes of courses. These courses, covering topics such as home health management, scientific pandemic protection, life education, virtue cultivation, and vocational skills, offer a wealth of learning opportunities for senior citizens.

Art Master Lectures

The "Art Master Lectures" is a large-scale public welfare aesthetic education programme launched by the Open University of China (OUC) and the SUC, designed for calligraphy and painting enthusiasts across society. This initiative invites 10 renowned painters and calligraphers, including Wu Yueshi, to create 10 high-quality courses at the OUC School of Art. The curriculum encompasses five styles of calligraphy: seal script, official script, regular script, running script, and cursive script, along with introductory painting courses focused on flowers, birds, and landscapes. These courses are both in-depth and accessible, providing answers and guidance for learners at various levels and establishing a connection between celebrated artists and ordinary enthusiasts.

Cloud Classroom

The Cloud Classroom offers a diverse array of high-quality courses, structured to mirror the pace of traditional, offline senior university education. Each day, learners engage in one lesson in the morning and another in the afternoon, totaling 10 courses from Monday to Friday. Over a learning cycle, this amounts to 16 courses in total. This online learning mode is specifically designed for learners, providing them a platform for both communication and demonstration.

Happy Learning Live Classes

The SUC has focused on addressing the educational needs of the elderly by launching a daily one-hour live class. This initiative aims to guide older students in developing their own learning plans, focusing on acquiring practical and accessible knowledge such as proactive health maintenance and traditional culture. The goal is to lead the nation's older adults towards a path of lifelong learning.

Reading Zone

The Reading Zone offers a public welfare-focused, inclusive, and convenient reading platform tailored for the elderly. By gathering a collection of quality books, sharing inspiring reading stories, linking relevant courses, and promoting the display of achievements, it fosters an engaging literary community. The initial selection includes 99 outstanding books across five categories, each embodying themes of cultivating virtue, pursuing lifelong learning, proactively maintaining health, embracing a joyful life, and achieving positive accomplishments. These books are available to read online for free, with simple registration.

Activities

Activities organised by the SUC vividly showcase the accomplishments of senior education in the modern era and the spirit of older adults. Participants can register for current activities, engage in voting, and also explore and view information and works from past events.
