On 16 November 2023, the Learning Resources Department (Digital Library) of the Open University of China (OUC), in collaboration with 10 other departments including the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Economics and Management, and the Experimental School, conducted a visit to Jingle Magic (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd.

This visit was part of an investigation into virtual learning resources for practical training. A total of 33 teachers participated in this initiative.

During their visit, the teachers had the opportunity to tour the facilities, listen to detailed explanations, participate in interactive demonstrations, and engage in discussions. They explored Jingle Magic’s exhibition hall to learn about their development process, product research, expansion strategies, and pioneering technologies like WEB3.0 and META. The teachers also got hands-on experience with various AI-powered devices, including smart blackboards, all-in-one machines, VR devices, HoloLens, smart learning pals, and interactive smart teaching desks. These experiences highlighted the transformative impact of technology in the realm of education.

After exploring virtual course resources for practical training in areas such as biology, chemistry, and medicine, the teachers participated in in-depth discussions with the staff of Jingle Magic. These conversations focused on various aspects including the application scenarios of the resources, the content of the courses, product features, production processes, research and development timelines, and the effects of their application.

Additionally, Jingle Magic showcased their achievements, innovative technologies, and new models that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality (XR) technology. These advancements significantly contribute to the digitalisation of education.

Cheng Qian, the deputy director of the OUC’s Learning Resources Department (Digital Library), outlined the specific measures the OUC has implemented as part of its digitalisation strategy, with special emphasis on its transformation of digital learning platforms, digital learning resources and digital teaching management.

Both parties expressed their commitment to enhancing communication and exploring cooperation in the development of virtual learning resources for practical training. They aim to establish joint laboratories and integrate the metaverse and digital content. The objective is to provide data-driven, intelligent, personalized, and efficient support services for learners.

This event represents the fourth field survey undertaken this year as part of the university's ongoing initiative focused on "digital resource construction". The previous surveys were conducted at Tencent's headquarters in Beijing, China Agricultural University, and Mango TV, with the participation of over 300 teachers from both the OUC's main campus and its branches. Looking ahead, the OUC is committed to prioritising the high-quality development of digital learning resources. It plans to engage in further research, expand its horizons, strengthen its capabilities, and achieve meaningful results. These efforts are aimed at advancing the establishment of a digital university that connects the world.
