On 3 November 2023, a donation ceremony was held to commemorate the support provided by the Education Foundation of the Open University of China (OUC) towards the rural revitalisation in science and education within Miyun District, Beijing City.

The event saw the attendance of several dignitaries, including Wang Wujun, vice chair of the Miyun District Political Consultative Conference and chair of the Science and Technology Association of Miyun District; Tang Xiaoming, director of the Division of Foundation Administration of the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau; Zheng Jie, general secretary of the OUC Education Foundation; and Wang Yufu, deputy director of the Civil Affairs Bureau of Miyun District, along with other relevant officials.

 

The donation agreement was signed by Zheng Jie and Wang Wujun, representing their respective sides. Zheng Jie presented a check for 300,000 yuan on behalf of the OUC Education Foundation to the Miyun District of Beijing City at the event. This fund is specifically allocated for the construction of science popularization publicity boards in rural villages across five streets within the jurisdiction of Miyun District.

In his speech, Wang Wujun expressed that the OUC Education Foundation's initiative greatly demonstrated OUC's commitment to supporting rural revitalisation and showed its dedication to the advancement of science popularization in Miyun District. He affirmed that the local authority would make good use of the support from the OUC Education Foundation to enhance the construction of science popularization publicity boards, thereby contributing to a robust environment for science popularization.

Zheng Jie stated that with the guidance and support of the Division of Foundation Administration of the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, along with robust backing from OUC leadership, the OUC Education Foundation has made this donation. Adhering to a philosophy of integrating science and technology with education, the Foundation is fulfilling its duty to support the social governance of the capital. The aim is to aid rural revitalisation in Miyun and contribute to creating a positive environment that encourages the love for learning and application of science and technology in education.

Tang Xioming conveyed that the Division of Foundation Administration of the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau is pleased to have facilitated the generous donation from the OUC. The division is committed to actively mobilizing and providing consistent guidance to the foundations under its management, encouraging them to make further contributions to the Miyun District and other areas within Beijing City.

The donation exemplifies the OUC's dedication to its philosophy of being firmly committed to the educational cause within the vast landscape of China. This effort represents an exploration and practice by the OUC Education Foundation to support rural revitalisation through diverse levels and perspectives.
