The All-China Women's Federation recently held a conference in Beijing to commemorate and honour International Women's Day. Several female role models were recognised at the event. Comrade Hu Xing, executive vice chair of the Labour Union and associate researcher at the Open University of China (OUC), was named "National Female Role Model with Outstanding Achievements" during the event.

Three years of dedication to practical work for OUC staff

"Hu Xing assumed the position of executive vice chair of the OUC Labour Union at the end of 2019, and since then, she has worked tirelessly to advance the Labour Union's mission in all areas."

Over the past three years, the Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on people's lives and work. Hu Xing and her colleagues have worked together to shoulder the responsibilities and missions of the Labour Union, constantly innovating the work content and forms of the Labour Union, and striving hard to protect the legal rights of the faculty and staff. She conducted in-depth investigations to understand the situations of every faculty and staff member, paid attention to those with special difficulties, and provided them with timely care and help. She worked hard to help staff members solve problems related to urgent needs, difficulties, and expectations. During the pandemic, Hu Xing took the initiative to hold fast to her position and managed to purchase epidemic prevention articles, which she then sent or delivered to staff members on other campuses or those who were quarantined.

In addition, Hu Xing led her colleagues in completing a series of Labour Union regulations, enriching the leisure and sports life of the staff, and enhancing their sense of happiness and satisfaction. Gradually, the faculty and staff have become proud of the Labour Union, which has become a cozy home-like harbor for them.

Lead the staff in shouldering social responsibilities

Hu Xing is always ready to help others and has high prestige among the staff. Under her influence, more and more university faculty and staff are willing to participate in a series of public welfare events, such as donating books and clothes to poverty-stricken areas, funding tuition for children of poverty-stricken families, and purchasing goods to help people in poverty-stricken areas. As a result, their efforts have been recognised by the university’s Party Committee and the superior labour union.

Honours and awards

Hu Xing's research project "Study on Teaching Model of Six-Network Integration" was awarded first prize in the Beijing Teaching Achievement Awards in 2017. The Labour Union was assessed as an Outstanding Department in the university's year-end appraisal, and Hu Xing was named Outstanding Director in 2020.

In 2021, Hu Xing was named an "OUC Advanced Individual Fighting Covid-19".
