On the morning of 29 September 2021, the Open University of China (OUC) held a video meeting to deploy 2021 teaching inspection work.
Li Song, OUC Party Committee member and vice president; Han Yi, director of the Department of Quality Monitoring and Control; Ye Zhihong, director of the Academic Affairs Department; Qi Wenxin, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Department; and Hu Po, deputy director of the Department of Quality Monitoring and Control, and relevant working staff attended the meeting. Leaders and staff at the school and department level from 43 branches and 14 directly affiliated specialised schools in charge of quality and teaching work attended the online live video meeting. The meeting was presided over by Hu Po.
Li Song pointed out that in recent years, the teaching of open education has faced a number of new situations and problems, and there is still a way to go to meet the high-quality development requirements for open education in the new era. In order to achieve the high-quality development of open education, it is necessary to follow the spirit of the Party Congress and the top-level design of the OUC Party Committee to promote truth-seeking and pragmatism. Teaching inspection is an important part of quality assurance in the OUC system. Although it is an important way to uncover problems, uncovering problems is not the ultimate goal. The key is to find the root of each problem, to study its reality, explore it with an earnest attitude, and work out solutions. Investigation is adopted to promote teaching construction and rectification, and quality assurance work is a long-term task. Schools at all levels must recognise the new situation; implement new requirements; form a standardised work situation that focuses on quality; adhere to the management of recruitment, academic research, and examination; implement quality in the daily process of running a school; continue to implement excellence and quality improvement; polish the OUC brand; and contribute to the running of a world-class open university.
Qi Wenxin introduced the state of online teaching inspection in 2020 and the follow-up work arrangements, emphasising that each branch should implement the work of each link of online teaching, give full play to the role of teaching team, and deepen the reform of the teaching model. Han Yi announced the comprehensive teaching inspection problems in 2020 along with their rectification requirements and deployed related work for 2021, emphasising that we must maintain a problem-oriented, goal-oriented, and result-oriented attitude in order to uncover the real problems with the high-quality standard and address them, promote benign quality management work circulation, improve the quality of the system, create excellence and improve quality, and comprehensively promote the implementation of the “1233” project. The meeting also shared online and remote lecture feedback from peer experts, student supervisors, and supervisor specialists, interpreted data, investigated problems, and proposed suggestions for future work.
