To guarantee network security for the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China, and implement the requirements of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and six other ministries on strengthening the security of education-system data, on the morning of 28 May 2021 Mr. Liao Yunhua, an expert on business continuity, information security, and director of the Division of Network Operations of the MOE Education-management Information Centre, gave a lecture on “Network-disaster Preparation” at the Open University of China (OUC). About 40 members of the OUC’s 11 departments and units attended.

The lecture covered why and how a disaster-preparation centre should be constructed, and how to maintain it. Liao Yunhua pointed out that every network faces force majeure risks in terms of environment and operations, but that the Business Continuity Plan

(BCP) can recover quickly from a disaster. He detailed the levels of disaster recovery, methods of preparation, and maintenance of the centre as part of the OUC’s ongoing operations, with an emphasis on risk analysis, formulations of BCP strategy, disaster-recovery plans, and plan rehearsals.

The event helped faculty gain a deeper understanding of network security, specifically data security, enhancing their awareness of the need for it and for disaster preparation, and teaching them about risk analysis, disaster preparation and recovery, rehearsals for disaster preparation, and so on. All the participants stated that the lecture gave them a deeper awareness of their roles in their respective business systems, and gave them greater confidence in dealing with system malfunctions.
