The Department of External Education and Training of the Open University of China (OUC) launched a teacher-training class for the 7th China International Internet Plus College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in Qingdao, Shandong Province, on 20 and 21 May 2021.

The event aimed to implement the guidance of the National Education Conference, the Opinions of the General Office of the State Council on Deepening Reform of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education in Colleges and Universities, and the Opinions of the State Council on Promoting High-quality Development of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, while enhancing reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education at the OUC, as well as strengthening construction of a teaching team  and the abilities of individual teachers. 113 teaching and student-affairs administrators, teachers and counselors from various majors, and personnel involved in innovation and entrepreneurship education from 23 branches, colleges and schools at prefecture and municipal levels participated.

In order to assess the results of the training, a questionnaire was passed out to the trainees after the event. It showed that 92.61% of them were satisfied with the organisation of the event and 94.23% with the courses themselves, and that about 96.74% hoped to register for courses related to Entrepreneurship and Small Business (ESB).

The Department of External Education and Training will provide customized services, including guidance on innovation and entrepreneurship education and a training camp for the competition, in order to meet the varying educational needs of OUC branches and local schools.

Trainees can also take free courses on the ESB learning and training platform, and sign up for ESB international certification and ESB teacher certification. The "Flipped Lectures on Entrepreneurship" course series is also available to them, with courses related to the competition, as well as special courses on "Integration of Professional Education with Innovation and Entrepreneurship - Invigorating High-quality Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education in Chinese Colleges and Universities".

More Information on ESB

The ESB Innovation and Entrepreneurship Joint Certification, jointly approved by the American Council on Education (ACE), the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), and the OUC, aims to provide high-quality innovation and entrepreneurship evaluation and certification services to the OUC's 4.66 million active students and faculty.

The joint-certification project will help the OUC implement its "Strategy on Development of External Training" and support the university in exploring a new model of skills training that includes industries and enterprises, helping broaden the OUC’s role as a training centre and expanding its influence. In the future, the New Future Online-education Group and the OUC will collaborate in training and evaluating those who demonstrate innovation and entrepreneurship abilities, and establish a model of the reform and development of education in this area.

The ESB Innovation and Entrepreneurship Joint Certification is an important response to national policies, carrying out university-enterprise cooperation, and promoting mass entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as employment based on these. It aims to meet current market demand in a timely manner and address difficulties facing colleges and universities, helping deepen reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education.
