Fujian Open University for Older Adults (an internet-based university) has established a branch school (the Wende branch) in a joint effort with Fuzhou Wende Education Management, aiming to expand education of older adults, and explore combining it with care. On the afternoon of 21 April 2021, an opening ceremony was held in the community-home-care service centre in Xindian Town, Jin'an District, Fuzhou City.

More than 50 people, including Shen Guanghui, vice president of Fujian Open University, and President of Fujian OU for Older Adults; Wu Sang, general manager of Fuzhou Wende Education Management; and teacher and student representatives attended.

This branch is directly affiliated with Fujian OU for Older Adults, and involved in a pilot project combining education with elder-care services. The two sides, complementing each other's strengths, are committed to exploring this new type of service in Fujian, and jointly promoting the development of education for older adults.

The community-home-care service centre in Xindian Town, the first home-based elder-care service centre established in a community in Fujian Province, was designated a "Five-star Home-care Service Centre for Older Adults" by the Fujian Provincial Civil Affairs Department upon its establishment. The new branch, offering long-term and daily care as well as activities, will extend its services in the centre and neighbourhoods via both online and offline courses, and offer the high-quality network-based resources of the Fujian Public-service Platform for Education of Older Adults, all with the aim of giving seniors easy access to education.
