The Party branch of the Logistics and Security Department of the Open University of China (OUC) has decided, starting in May 2021, to help a student having financial difficulties until she o is enrolled in university, aiming to consolidate the poverty-alleviation achievements of the university and develop activities related to study of the history of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in a down-to-earth manner.
Extensive investigation led to the branch identifying a female student named Zhang Jiarui as the beneficiary. The 8-year-old from Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, is currently a second grader at Jingliao School (a school for children of migrant workers) in Fangshan District, Beijing. Her family qualified due to its financial difficulties resulting from the death of her father in 2019, with the widowed mother supporting it through temporary jobs.
After deciding on her, the branch held a meeting to report the situation, and 15 Party and non-Party members contributed generously to the RMB 600 monthly subsidy the girl would receive throughout her pre-university schooling. On 21 April 2021, branch representatives traveled to the school, where they met with school leaders as well as the student and her mother to discuss procedures and related matters. The hope was expressed that, with the support of the OUC, she would study hard, remain healthy, and express her gratitude by contributing to society in the future.
