The Faculty of Political Science and Law of the Open University of China (OUC) held an activity for teachers to discuss and showcase their teaching skills on 13 April 2021.

The event, aiming to enhance teaching skills, build a high-quality teaching team, and assist with the OUC's "Four-transformations" strategy, mainly involved on-the-spot teaching demonstrations. Zhang Xia, a famous teacher in the OUC Faculty of Education in Beijing; Tang Yiting, a young teacher in the OUC Faculty of Forestry and Medicine, and famous in Beijing; and Wang Zhuo, a teacher in the OUC Faculty of Science and Engineering, were invited to attend, making comments and sharing their experiences. Zhang Luanqiao, director of the Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development, and vice director Tian Suxia, were invited to offer instruction, and the meeting was presided over by Gu Xiaohua, deputy director of the Faculty of Political Science and Law.

Six teachers from different majors in the faculty signed up to showcase their teaching abilities in the competition, and the three experts gave them insightful feedback on their teaching in terms of content, objectives, organisation, language, posture and manner, effect, ideology and politics, and other aspects. While praising each teacher's performance, they also gave suggestions, shared their experiences, and offered guidance on teaching content and interaction, PPT production, whiteboard use, and so on. Their comments were precise, accurate and helpful, and in the end two of the teachers were selected to represent the faculty in the "OUC Teaching-skills Competition".

Zhang Luanqiao praised the activity, and especially its significance for students, while Liu Jingduo, director of the Faculty of Political Science and Law, gave an overview of it.

This event was part of the "Strengthening the Foundations" project of the Faculty of Political Science and Law, and teachers in the faculty thought both the presenters and the judges did a wonderful job. The teachers involved gained a clear idea of how to direct their efforts in the future, and committed themselves to working to enhance their teaching and research so as to contribute to the university's aforementioned strategy.
