A work forum on poverty alleviation and achieving prosperity of the TV Night School of Hainan Province was held on 18 November, 2020, with Li Jun, deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee, presiding over the meeting, and Cao Guoyong, executive deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Open University of China(OUC), being invited to attend the forum and give a speech.
Hainan TV Night School, organized and planned by Hainan Radio and TV University(Hainan RTVU), has been exploring and improving a new poverty alleviation education mode featuring "TV + Night School + Dingtalk App + Hotline" since it was launched on November 18, 2016. Up to now,208 programmes have been broadcasted, which have attracted more than 100 million rural grassroots cadres and farmer students to learn, and as a result have won many honours, including "Organising and Innovative Award" of the national poverty alleviation awards.
Cao Guoyong noted that serving lifelong learning for all and providing important support for the construction of lifelong education system are important measures to implement general secretary Xi Jinping's important exposition and the guiding principle of the fourth and fifth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China(CPC). Community education is an integral part of the lifelong education system, an effective means for the construction of a learning society, and a significant carrier to promote social governance innovation.
He stressed that in the past four years since its establishment, Hainan TV Night School has achieved gratifying results and is of great significance. It has made achievements and obtained experiences that can be used for reference and promoted in poverty alleviation, rural living environment improvement, assisting Rural Revitalization and strengthening organizational leadership. The experiences of the night school are worthy of further summary, publicity and promotion. As always, the OUC will continue to support the transformation and development of Hainan TV Night School.
He said that the OUC headquarters will perform its duties and responsibilities conscientiously and vigorously support the construction and development of open universities in various regions. It is hoped that Hainan provincial Party committee and government, as well as relevant competent departments, will pay more attention to the transformation and development of open universities, and support the exploration of new models and new experiences in the development of open, lifelong and online education.
During the stay in Hainan, Cao Guoyong and his party also carried out field research in Hainan RTVU, Sanya University, Wenchang University and other units, get in-depth information of the system of school running, online education and teachers’ capacity-building.
