In a list released by the Ministry of Education on 4 September 2020, Professor Gao Hang, an external lecturer of the Open University of China (OUC), and 11 other teachers, including Zhong Nanshan and Zhang Boli, were selected as “National Role Models of Teaching and Education.”

Professor Gao is a special grant recipient of the State Council and a famous teacher from the national “10,000 Talents Programme.” In the ten years since the national models of teaching and education launched in 2010, more than 100 teachers have been selected as national model teachers. Professor Gao has been a chief editor and lecturer of the open education pilot programmes of China Central Radio and TV University (CCRTVU) since 1999. Later, he joined the first group of staff involved in the construction and teaching of the university’s cooperative undergraduate programmes. Today, he continues to contribute great effort to the OUC’s application for master’s degree programmes.

Professor Gao teaching in English for the China-Germany Master’s Degree Programme

In July 2020, the OUC, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU), and Beijing International Institute of Asia-Europe Education and Culture (AEEC) jointly launched the China-Germany Master’s Degree Programme. The first group of majors to enrol students included an MBA. The Faculty of Economics and Management of the OUC is responsible for the teaching, teaching resources construction, learning support services, and examinations of the four basic courses: Introduction to Economics, Statistics of Economic Status, Macro Economics, and Business Mathematics. As a principal teacher of the Business Mathematics course, Professor Gao worked meticulously and devoted himself wholeheartedly to teaching. During the second wave of the COVID-19 epidemic in Beijing, Professor Gao traveled from Changchun to Beijing to hold face-to-face teaching and guidance. Professor Gao uses a problem driven, interactive discussion teaching model in his classes, which are given in English. He has won unanimous praise from students for his effective teaching.

Professor Gao has been a part of and grown with the OUC for more than 20 years. He said that in the future, he will continue to give full support to the reform and development of the OUC, and make greater contributions to the construction of an education system serving post-graduate education and lifelong learning for all.
