From 18 to 22 November 2019, a special teacher training targeted at supporting the Open University of China (OUC) Qinghai Branch was held in Xining, Qinghai Province. Eight-one teachers and management personnel from radio and tv universities from various prefectures and cities in the province, as well as colleges directly under the OUC Qinghai Branch, participated in the event.

 

The seminar, hosted by the OUC and sponsored by the OUC Qinghai Branch, was aimed at implementing OUC educational work targeted at alleviating poverty for Qinghai Radio and TV University (Qinghai RTVU), strengthening the construction of teaching staff in the Qinghai Branch, improving the quality and ability of teachers, and enhancing the teaching management and service level of school-running organisations at all levels. Song Hui, deputy secretary of the Party committee of Qinghai Branch, and Liu Ying, deputy director of the OUC Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Su Shaoyan, director of the Academic Affairs Office of the Qinghai Branch, presided over the opening ceremony.

Several experts from inside and outside the OUC system were invited to the five-day training event to exchange views and ideas about ideological and political education, online course construction, the application of the OUC learning network, and the digital library. Cui Zhizhong, a professor at Qinghai Normal University, gave a keynote lecture entitled "From Ideological and Political Courses to Ideological and Political Education within Courses.” Wang Li, an associate professor at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the OUC headquarters, shared a lecture entitled  “Experiences of the Construction of Online Courses in the MOOC Environment.” Li Jing and Zhang Kun from the Credit Bank and Learning Resources Department of the OUC headquarters shared lectures entitled "A Practical Exploration of the Credit Bank Led by the Qualification Framework in the Field of Vocational Education" and "Applications of the Digital Library.” Wang Weiyan, head of the operation and maintenance sector of the OUC Online, shared the construction process of online courses, teaching organisational processes, and the formative examination task review system based on the OUC learning network in combination with lectures and practice. Song Jixin, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Department of the OUC Qinghai Branch, and Gong Shoubing, from the School of Humanities of the OUC Qinghai Branch, conducted training sessions on the application of the academic affairs management system and graduate satisfaction survey training connected to their work at the branch university.

The participating teachers carefully listened to the lectures and actively communicated with each other. They said that they will continue to be practitioners of lifelong learning, apply the knowledge and skills learned in the event of future teaching and management practices, constantly improve their comprehensive qualities, and make due contributions to promoting "excellence and quality"  within the school-running organisational system of the OUC.
