On 14 April 2019, an opening ceremony for the second group of pilot projects on Multimodal Teaching Reform on Public English was held at Baoding Radio and TV University (Baoding RTVU) in Hebei Province. Liu Zhanrong, head the Faculty of International Languages and Cultures (FILC); Professor Liu Yongquan;

Xiong Ying, deputy director of the Public English Teaching and Research Centre of the FILC; Wang Qin, director of Hebei RTVU’s Teaching Support Service Centre; Li Shujin, president of Baoding RTVU; and Gu Wenbo, vice president of Baoding RTVU, together with all the teachers and students from the pilot projects, attended the ceremony, which was presided over by Wang Qin.

 
Li Shujin extended a warm welcome to the leaders, teachers, and students attending the ceremony. He said that while stabilising the scale of school running, Baoding RTVU has continuously deepened connotation construction, strengthened teaching management, firmly grasped the quality of teaching, improved the quality of teachers through various channels, and consolidated the foundation of operation. Teaching reform is an effective method of professional development for teachers and an inexhaustible source of school development. As one of the eight units from the second batch of Multimodal Teaching Reform on Public English pilot projects, Baoding RTVU attached great importance to the work and included it in its the key work in 2019. A special topic meeting was held by the president to listen to the report on the plan, a leadership organisation headed by the president was established, and a teaching team for the system was set up, which has offered strong support for the pilot projects in terms of teachers and financial and material resources, and ensured the smooth implementation of the reform program.


As chief editor of the textbooks and chief designer of the courses, Liu Zhanrong encouraged students to actively participate in the pilot study programmes and enhance their ability to work and study independently, and promised to continue to support the pilot projects and offer help and assistance for teachers and students. Professor Liu Yongquan gave the first lesson of the course, explaining a number of English words to students.

 

Wang Qin summarised the opening ceremony, noting that the leaders' speeches had important guiding significance for the pilot work and that all teachers and students should bear this significance in mind. She said that the students should cherish their opportunities, "learn something and put it into use" every day, improve their own qualities, and become a brave pursuer of the dream of the new era.


At the ceremony, students received textbooks and customised notebooks, and student representatives gave speeches.
