The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter short as the State Administration) recently unveiled the 2015 list of one hundred excellent audio-visual electronic publications recommended to national youth. Handwork with Kids series published by the Multimedia Press, the Open University of China, was selected for the list.

Handwork with Kids series includes 4 subjects on 8 DVDs, with a total length of 400 minutes:  two-dimensional paper work, three-dimensional paperwork, clay work, and modeling with waste materials. Ms. Ma Xueping and Ms. Ma Xinyi from Beijing Shimei Vocational School were invited to be key lecturers for the series, explaining the process to the audience step by step, showing how to make paper come alive, give life to clay, and turn waste into treasure. Through this work, kids and parents can exercise hand-eye coordination, stimulate intelligence, as well as strengthen parent-child bonds, and create lasting memories through the process of handwork creation.

This activity, launched in February this year, ultimately selected 100 excellent audio-visual electronic publications after rounds of procedures, i.e. declaration from the publishing units, reviewing of application materials, expert evaluations, etc. Works selected will be publicized together by the State Administration on relevant media as well as being introduced and promoted to educational institutions, including secondary and primary schools, with the aim of “Care for the Youth and Building the China Dream”.

The selection and recommendation activity is designed to promote the greater popularization of the national reading campaign, which was first introduced in 2013, by finding and recommending excellent audio-video products and electronic publications in line with the youth psychological state, their appreciation levels, and conductive to their health and growth.
