2018 marks 40 years of China’s reform and opening up and also 40 years since Comrade Deng Xiaoping approved the establishment of the Radio and TV University.

The Open University of China (OUC) attaches great importance to the spirit of the speech given by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the meeting celebrating the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. The OUC will implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the National Education Conference, strengthening our determination to pursue educational causes that are firmly rooted in China and carry out the fundamental goal of fostering moral education and cultivating talented professionals. We will adhere to the path of developing open universities with Chinese characteristics, promote the “1314” project with a focus on quality improvement, and implement the 13th Five-Year Plan in order to make new progress in every aspect of reform and construction, all guided by the Party’s overall leadership and a people-centric concept.

Mutual Learning Outcome Accreditation Alliance Progresses Steadily, 18 More Institutions Join as Second Batch Partners
Eighteen institutions including Beijing Polytechnic College, Jiangnan University, and China Property Management Institute have been approved by the expert panel to officially join the Alliance, along with 36 learning outcomes.

SketchUp Interior Design, a Course Developed by OUC Included as National Quality Online Open Courses
The SketchUp Interior Design course developed by the Open University of China (OUC) has been included in the selection of higher vocational education courses for junior college education, as part of a list of 490 National Quality Online Open Courses officially launched by the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Sino-German Joint Master’s Degree Programme Officially Launched


On 19th January 2018, the Open University of China (OUC) and the Beijing International Institute of Asia-Europe Education and Culture (AEEC Institute Beijing) signed an educational cooperative agreement, which signifies that the OUC Experimental School Sino-German Master’s Degree Programme is officially launched.


The Programme primarily targets enrolling prospective students with an undergraduate educational background and bachelor’s degree. After related training, students who meet the admission requirements will be sent to study on the programme at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. The programme is jointly implemented by OUC Experimental School and AEEC Institute Beijing. During the implementation process, the OUC Experimental School will work with Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg to explore jointly developing related curriculum and teaching resources of the master’s degree programme.

OUC Project Summary Conference for “Plan for Realising the University Dreams of McDonald’s Employees” Convenes in Shanghai


On 29th January 2018, a summary conference and seminar for the project “Plan for Realising the University Dreams of McDonald’s Employees,” which is jointly sponsored by the Open University of China and McDonald’s China, was convened at the headquarters of Shanghai McDonald’s China. The attendees reviewed the achievements and experience since the implementation of the project one year ago and held discussions over “dual mechanism of learner development,” i.e. cooperation between universities and enterprises, and provided suggestions for further development of “Action Plan for Realising Dreams of Further Education” and “Plan for Realising the University Dreams of McDonald’s Employees”.

Two OUC Projects Receive Funding from the 2018 National Publication Foundation
It was announced recently that two projects, Stronger Manufacturing, Stronger China: From Manufacturing Power Strategy to China Manufacturing 2025 and Eye of Space: Space Technology Escorts the Belt and Road Initiative, submitted by the Open University of China Press (OUC) will be funded by the National Publication Foundation in 2018.

President Yang Zhijian Presented at the 3rd US-China Smart Education Conference in Beijing
From 18-20 March, 2018, the 3rd US-China Smart Education Conference was held in Beijing. Experts from China and the United States, attended the conference participated in the conference and conducted in-depth discussions on artificial intelligence and the informatisation of education. Yang Zhijian, the president of the Open University of China (OUC), was invited to give a presentation entitled A Call from the Future: New Opportunities for Educational Informatisation.

OUC President Yang Zhijian Undertakes Position of Bayi School Council Director
On 29th March 2018, Yang Zhijian, president of the Open University of China (OUC), was elected by the OUC Bayi School, with the approval of the OUC’s official approval (OUC Official Document 2018 No. 1), to undertake the position of council director of the OUC Bayi School.
