DU Liqun, Zhuang ethnicity, a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC), is a member of the 13th and 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and serves as Head Nurse and Chief Nurse of the AIDS Department at Nanning Fourth People's Hospital in Guangxi. She is also an outstanding student majoring in Administrative Management at Guangxi Open University (OU), enrolled in 2012. DU has won over 50 honours and awards.
These include "Advanced Individual in Creating Excellence in Work in the National Health Care System," "National May 1st Labour Medal," "National Model of Medical Ethics," "National March 8th Red-Banner Holder," "National Role Model for Ethnic Unity and Progress," "National Advanced Worker," the "45th International Nightingale Medal Award," the "Most Beautiful Doctor of China," "National Outstanding Communist Party Member," and "the National March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter."
With nearly four decades of experience in infectious disease clinical nursing, DU has been on the frontlines in the fight against major epidemics, including SARS, avian influenza, dengue fever, and COVID-19. She has witnessed firsthand the remarkable development of China's healthcare system and the continuous improvement in public health outcomes. As a CPPCC member representing the medical sector, she has long focused on grassroots healthcare issues, advocating for reforms that address pressing livelihood concerns.
During her eight-year tenure as a member of the CPPCC, DU has been a dedicated advocate for patient rights. At the 2024 Two Sessions, she focused on adolescent mental health, submitting a proposal titled "Safeguarding Mental Wellness for Youth Development." The proposal calls for including psychological treatments for primary and secondary school students, as well as consultations in hospital psychiatry departments, in the medical insurance coverage. It also includes specific recommendations on family support, school-based initiatives, service systems, and public awareness campaigns. Many of these recommendations have been adopted by the Ministry of Education.
Beyond youth mental health, DU, as a senior Head Nurse at Nanning Fourth People's Hospital in Guangxi, has also focused on the development of internet-based on-demand nursing services. After the 2024 Spring Festival, she delved into the frontlines of this service, working with medical staff and patients' families to explore how to make it more accessible to the public.
In 2025, DU has turned her attention to children with autism spectrum disorders, calling for more targeted preferential policies to support their development. Her proposal for this year mainly aims to include certain autism treatment costs in medical insurance reimbursement, such as aligning medication coverage with that for psychiatric treatments, which would be a great help for families of children with autism.
"Bringing grassroots healthcare concerns to the national stage through the Two Sessions is my top priority," DU says, highlighting her commitment to addressing community health issues.
