In order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), review the May the Fourth Movement, and further study and implement the guiding principles of the important speech General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered at the meeting launching a campaign on Party History Learning and Education, the Open University of China (OUC) launched the “Tell Stories of Party History and Be Progressive Youth: Youth United” learning activity, part of the campaign on Party history learning and education within the OUC educational system, on 29 April 2021.

OUC deputy Party secretary Liu Chen delivered a speech.

As one of a themed series of OUC educational activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party, the OUC headquarters and its branches in Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Hebei, Qinghai, Shenzhen, Fujian, and Hunan jointly planned and produced the feature film “Tell Stories of Party History and Be Progressive Youth” based on their own educational characteristics and local historical cultures. Teachers and students from across the OUC educational system told stories about the history of the Party and shared their learning experiences, which fostered an atmosphere of extensive study, free discussion, and enthusiastic practice. A large number of young people have been inspired to build a new OUC and to make new achievements in the new era. The united learning activity was jointly organised by the OUC Party Committee Office, the Department of Publicity, the Trade Union, the School of Marxism, the Learning Resources Department (Digital Library), the Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development, the Youth Federation, and the Youth League. Young teachers and students from across the OUC educational system participated in the learning activity online.

In his speech, Liu Chen pointed out that the video learning activity is of far-reaching significance. Looking back at  past struggles and looking forward to the hard work ahead, it is necessary for the OUC to make a good study and summary of Party history and pass on and carry forward the Party’s successful experiences. He called on all young people in the OUC to shoulder this historical mission and strengthen their confidence going forward. Young people must have great ambition, refine their morality, take responsibility, and work hard. They should rise to the challenge of the mission of national rejuvenation as a new generation and involve themselves in the unswerving struggle for the nation, the people, and mankind.

The activity was simultaneously broadcast via multiple channels, such as the OUC cloud classroom, the OUC online cloud class, the OUC kuaishou account, the OUC bilibili, and Baidu Live. Around 540,000 young teachers and students from the OUC system participated in the study online. At the end of the activity, many teachers and students from the OUC system said that the affectionate accounts of the teachers and students in the feature film introduced them to the Party’s long history, kindled the eternal fire of revolution, and shone the light of glory on the activity. All the people sensed their original aspiration and mission, got the strength of endeavour, and further strengthened their ideals, beliefs, and ideological foundation of “always following the Party.” The teachers and students of the OUC system will continue to transform the study and teaching of Party history into an inexhaustible force that promotes the development of educational work in general. They will inherit the “red gene,” carry on the revolutionary fire, and shoulder the mission of their times. They will write their own glorious new chapter in the story of realising the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
