To carry out the significant directive of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) regarding "deepening national reading campaign," to promote a culture of reading, contribute to fostering a love of reading in China, and advance lifelong learning and personal growth for all citizens, on 6 May2024, the Open University of China (OUC), in collaboration with China Media Group Mobile, hosted the Special Event themed "Reading and Lifelong Growth" alongside the 2nd Anniversary celebration of the OUC Lifelong Education Platform.

Renowned hosts Jing Yidan and Feng Shuo were invited to engage in discussions regarding the pivotal role of reading in lifelong development with faculty and students of the OUC. Fan Xianrui, a member of the Party Committee and vice president of the OUC, exchanged perspectives with the esteemed guests.

Jing Yidan and Feng Shuo shared insights on how reading enhances knowledge, broadens horizons, enriches language, nurtures critical thinking, and sparks inspiration in three key areas: "Enhancing Reading Proficiency," "Improving Writing Skills," and "Sharing Lifelong Learning Experiences." During the event, Jing Yidan shared heartwarming anecdotes, imparted life lessons, and reflected on emotional moments. Emphasising the significance of documenting experiences through words, she encouraged participants to convey their unique life wisdom and insights through writing, fostering a legacy of knowledge and wisdom. Leveraging her own experiences and insights, she delved into the mysteries of reading and deciphered the nuances of language with faculty and students.

The event witnessed lively and enthusiastic interactions, with the interpretations of reading and lifelong growth by the two guests resonating strongly with the attending faculty and students. Engaging discussions on topics such as "reading," "writing," and "lifelong learning" ensued between the participants and the guests.

Looking ahead, the OUC pledges to continue its commitment to reading and lifelong learning, organising a diverse array of activities to provide exceptional learning resources and varied learning opportunities for students, faculty, and the broader society, thus advancing lifelong learning for all.
